I normally prefer using liquid eyeliner (opposed to eyeliner gel or pencil) since it doesn't smudge as easily. I also usually don't shy away from the classic colors when it comes to eyeliner (i.e. black, brown, or navy), but I recently had the opportunity to try out Tarte Cosmetics skinny smolderEYES™ Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner ($19) in Emerald. This color is beautiful and breathtaking, and I love how the pencil glides on effortlessly and smoothly. It is also surprisingly long-lasting, but they're not kidding about it being waterproof since it can be a trying experience to remove it by the end of the day. I suggest using an oil-based cleanser for removal if this is the case for you, too. Also, the pencil is very soft, but I read in the comments on Tarte that you can leave it in the fridge for 15 minutes, which makes it very firm before sharpening.
