S&S; News: Next-gen launch titles are of a higher standard than ever before, says Ubisoft Alain Corre, executive director at Ubisoft has stated that the first wave of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One games are of a higher standard than any previous launch line-up.
Speaking to CVG, Corre answered the concern that releasing new games early in a console cycle is risky as they may not realize the potential of the hardware.
“It does take time to master new technology,” he replied, “but this time we’ve been able to partner with Sony on PS4 and Microsoft on Xbox One early. We’ve been able to understand the core architecture of the console and have aligned our production capacities and creativity on what we feel they can bring.”
Corre believes that Ubisoft’s one-two launch punch of Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag already make good use of what the new consoles have under the hood.
“Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs are exploiting a good amount of the capacity of the machines already. Of course, over the years it will improve and our engineers will find some tricks to better create in the future, but at launch there are very good games.
“What we see today is that, for the very first time, the first generation of games on [PS4 and Xbox One] will be miles, miles better than the first generation of games we used to have at the launch of previous consoles,” he said.
The next-gen versions of Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed 4 will both be available when the new consoles launch in November.
