Traveling in Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela was the most expensive part of my one year trip around the world so far. Looking back at my expenses, the only way I can justify my spending is because I chose safety over saving money.

I spent so much money going through Argentina because I needed to get a VISA to Brazil as quickly as possible so I can enter Venezuela safely. In hindsight, I should have researched acquiring the Brazilian VISA much earlier. If I did that, I would have definitely saved hundreds of dollars.

I paid for a tour group when I travelled to Venezuela because it's the only way to stay safe while traveling through this country. Overall, I had an amazing experience in this country and between Argentina, Brazil, my spending in Venezuela is the most justified of the three.

I hated traveling through Brazil because it was ridiculously expensive. Many of my expenses didn't make sense. Taxis are very expensive and I didn't want to take the local buses while I have all my luggages because they are known for armed robberies.

The cost of safety when travelling through South America is definitely a lot and I recommend saving tons of money before visiting these countries.
