Sorcha and James brought their family from Ireland to New York City this August for a Central Park wedding.

They were out one night with friends and family when James proposed. They did discuss getting married at home in Ireland but they have close family members who live abroad so New York was the best half way meeting point for everyone. They liked Central Park because it is so beautiful and offers lots of variety of different locations for nice photographs.

Getting married is important to them because family values are important to them and “being married shows unity for our family,” as Sorcha said.  They had a traditional Irish hand fasting ceremony as part of their wedding.

Their ceremony was at the Ladies’ Pavilion. They had originally chosen Wagner Cove for their ceremony location, but not long before they came out to New York, the wooden structure in the Cove was very badly vandalized. The Central Park Conservancy have had to remove it for repairs and it is now gone indefinitely. Sorcha was disappointed but quickly bounced back and chose the slightly bigger but less secluded location of the Ladies’ Pavilion.

They loved the whole area by the Lake, they found it particularly scenic. They said that their favorite photographs were taken there because the area is so romantic. Their photographer was Emily Raftery, from New Zealand.

They stayed in New York for ten days. They chose the Ravel Hotel in Long Island City in Queens.

Sorcha wore an ivory wedding gown from Tracy Bridal in Galway, Ireland. She carried a small bouquet of white roses. Her hair and makeup were done by the fabulous Metro Look.

Their guests were immediate family. Sorcha said that they loved the wedding location and they all said that they had never experienced anything like it before. Their reception was held in the Genesis Bar on the Upper East Side. Sorcha said that she would highly recommend it, “the food is amazing and the staff are extremely friendly,” she said.

Sorcha said that getting married in Central Park exceeded all of their expectations. She said it was very romantic and even better than they had imagined. “Claire is very helpful and quick in responding to emails. She took a lot of stress off James and I. I would like to say a massive thank you from us both.” Thank you for sharing your story and your beautiful photos with us, Sorcha and James. I wish you the best of luck for your future together.
