Songs You Should Hear :: "Airport Hotel" by Louis Brennan

By Ventipop @ventipop

'Airport Hotel' delivered in Brennan's cracked baritone is a beautiful ballad describing a passionate encounter that leaves both parties lacking. Brennan's baritone juxtaposes the soft folk guitar and jarring strings, before opening up into an impassioned second chorus, full of aching, strained emotion. Brennan's sound calls to mind Father John Misty, Conor Oberst, John Grant and Johnny Cash with the lyrical command of troubadours like Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave. His lyrics are poetic, bittersweet and hugely emotive. With a low-fi, DIY vintage quality to the track, the minimalism of instruments allows Brennan's voice to soar.

Brennan has performed in many guises on many stages and is known for a live show that takes the listener on a journey, turning the mirror from himself onto the audience, commanding dynamics as if conducting an orchestra not standing alone with an acoustic guitar.
