Instagram is a popular photo sharing app for iOS and Android. Instagram can be a useful tool for NWS to further interact with customers and the general public in areas such as outreach, safety, and education. It can also be used to help brand the agency, showcasing "the best of" who we are and what we do. NWS will be providing a prototype of use of Instagram to explore usefulness of the app to the NWS mission and to solicit feedback from the broader community.

My eldest would chat to her friends every minute of every evening in parallel to life at home if allowed. They use What's App. Do you know how well managed this app is? Her other favourite site is Pinterest. I spoke to her and explained why I don't want her to use Tumblr or Facebook but one of the reasons I gave for not having a Facebook account was that she sees her friends at school every day, it's best for family overseas or people you don't see very often. She accepted that but the same could apply to a What's App. I don't think I would stop her using What's App cos she frequently shares the exchanges she has with friends with me and it's useful for communicating when they're doing homework, but sometimes I feel she is living her life in several alternate realities and sharing every minute of her friends' angst, fangirl hysteria and with some friends their loneliness. At the weekend I often take her iPod Touch off her and she participates fully in family life - still, only just a teenager!

It encourages contact with strangers. As with Tinder, the whole point is to meet people. The difference with Yellow is that the endgame is sometimes just exchanging social media handles to connect there. Even if there's no offline contact, however, without age verification, teens are connecting with people they don't know who may be much older.

Despite our simplification of the term 'strategy', there's no doubt it can be difficult to get started actually building one. Let's see what a digital marketing campaign looks like, and then, we'll jump into those seven building blocks to help you create an effective digital marketing strategy to set up your business for online success.

If you live outside of China, it's unlikely that you use - or perhaps have even heard of - WeChat. But with more than 600 million users, WeChat is one of the largest messaging apps in the world. And to call it a messaging app is actually an undersell because it does so much more.

The first three universities to have Facebook in the UK were Oxford, Cambridge and St Andrews. Facebook came to London School of Economics (LSE) in a later roll-out to British universities. See more "

How do you feel when people comment on your social media posts? Awesome, right? A comment is or some form of engagement is usually a sign that people love your social media content. And it's important to reciprocate and respond to these interactions. But at the same time, engaging with your followers can be time-consuming. [...]

As mobile devices become an increasingly integral part of our lives, it's vital that marketers understand how to effectively communicate on this unique and extremely personal channel. Mobile devices are kept in our pockets, sit next to our beds, and are checked constantly throughout the day. This makes marketing on mobile incredibly important but also very nuanced.

The quintessential "dumb" app, Yo briefly captured the collective attention of the Internet when an app that only allowed you to say "yo" topped the App Store charts - even if it was for just a few days. The app quickly racked up more than a million users and inspired dozens of copycats (Yo Hodor, anyone?) while helping kick off a new trend of ridiculous and ridiculous-sounding apps.

Stranger danger is an issue. Kik allows communication with strangers who share their Kik usernames to find people to chat with. The app allegedly has been used in high-profile crimes, including the murder of a 13-year-old girl and a child-pornography case. There's also a Kik community blog where users can submit photos of themselves and screenshots of messages (sometimes displaying users' full names) to contests.

Younger generations are becoming more involved in politics due to the increase of political news posted on various types of social media. Due to the heavier use of social media among younger generations, they are exposed to politics more frequently, and in a way that is integrated into their online social lives. While informing younger generations of political news is important, there are many biases within the realms of social media. It can be difficult for outsiders to truly understand the conditions of dissent when they are removed from direct involvement.[207] Social media can create a false sense of understanding among people who are not directly involved in the issue. An example of social media creating misconceptions can be seen during the Arab Spring protests. Today's generation rely heavily on social media to understand what is happening in the world, and consequently people are exposed to both true and false information. For example, Americans have misconceptions surrounding the events of the Arab Springs movement.[208] Social media can be used to create political change, both major and minor. For example, in 2011 Egyptians used Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube as a means to communicate and organize demonstrations and rallies to overthrow President Hosni Mubarak. Statistics show that during this time the rate of Tweets from Egypt increased from 2,300 to 230,000 per day and the top 23 protest videos had approximately 5.5 million views.[209]
