“Social-Media-Harms +Employee Social Media Policy”

By Julia Fernandes @appshub

If you still think WeChat is just about messaging, you’re vastly underestimating the platform, which now counts more than 650 million users. Weixin, as it’s known in China, is the most dominant social network in the People’s Republic, where Facebook, Instagram and many other apps are blocked. WeChat is where you go to pay bills, hail rides, play casual games, browse news, send friends money, and much more. Today, there are millions of “official accounts” on the platform which act as mini apps within the app, enabling users to interact with brands, services and even celebrities. Looking at what WeChat is to China, you can’t help but think this is what Facebook wants to be to the world.

Facebook’s recent newsfeed policy tweaks suggest that there will be a shift in the digital marketer’s mindset too. Why would a leading social media platform that earned an impressive revenue through ads revise their ad feeds? Maybe this decision also suggests the changing needs of a typical consumer.

It is worth noting that, with so many of these apps getting into games, stickers and now music sharing, it is becoming harder to define them as messaging services. “I think there is some misunderstanding here in how we categorise these apps,” says Pavel Durov, who founded Russia’s version of Facebook, VK.com, and recently launched a mobile messaging service called Telegram. “They are social networks. You have a social graph there; a newsfeed; you have profile pages. Many things that are related to social networks by definition.” Social chat apps is another way to define them, says Gartner mobile analyst Brian Blau. “People are sometimes using three or four of these apps.”

Vero has made a long list of promises to lure more users, the most notable being that it will stay ad-free, with no data mining, and won’t change things drastically with constant algorithm changes. That means posts will show up in chronological order, and some content won’t be preferred over others.

Using digital marketing without a strategic approach is still commonplace. I’m sure many of the companies in this category are using digital media effectively and they could certainly be getting great results from their search, email or social media marketing. But I’m equally sure that many are missing opportunities for better targeting or optimisation or are suffering from the other challenges I’ve listed below. Perhaps the problems below are greatest for larger organisations who most urgently need governance. There’s arguably less need for a strategy in a smaller company.

It also means I can share snippets of my personal life with those that follow me, which I think is hugely important for brands these days. People want to know the people behind the business and when you share photos of trips or funny everyday stories it connects you with your prospective market at a deeper level.

One of the key components of SMM is social media optimization (SMO). Like search engine optimization (SEO), SMO is a strategy for drawing new and unique visitors to a website. SMO can be done two ways: by adding social media links to content such as RSS feeds and sharing buttons, or by promoting activity through social media via status updates,  tweets, or blog posts.

This is an all-in-one communications app for messaging and calling (similar to WhatsApp) that enables you to connect with the people of your choice. It was also developed by Tencent in China and can easily work alongside QQ. As per the BI intelligence report, the number of WeChat users are fast catching up with the number of WhatsApp users.

Paroma, aptly nicked ‘Alice in Wordland’ by her peers for her enthusiasm to explore the world of words, crafts compelling features around the fast-growing marketing technology space. As General Assignments Editor, she focuses on the vision of the key players in this industry even while highlighting the interesting side stories around martech companies. With over a decade of dabbling with various forms of writing and working closely with award-winning advertising agencies to launch premium brands in the Travel, Luxury and Real Estate space, she’s now keen to explore all the technology that helps put all this CX interface into place. A music and dance aficionado, Mademoiselle Paroma is as conversant with French as she is with numbers thanks to her five-year stint as an investment banker. She counts ‘Gone with the Wind’ as her fave rainy-day-cuppa-coffee read and ‘Into the Wild’ as the movie she can cozy up on her couch with.

I just like Buffer’s suggested content and I often post about a third of them. Not only are they good posts to add to my content mix, but they’re some of the most interesting things I read these days overall. Add the WordPress “Buffer My Post” plugin, and Buffer is a big part of my Twitter presence.

Enjoy a huge catalog of music, on the go, for $10 a month. You can use Spotify’s radio for a predictive playlist, create your own, or enjoy the app’s curated stations. And of course, a la carte sampling of any track in the app’s library of tens of millions of songs.

Case studies. Having detailed case studies on your website can be an effective form of content for those who are ready to make a purchasing decision, as it helps you positively influence their decision.

LinkedIn, with its 500 million members, is the quintessential professional network and one that’s not used as optimally as it could be. When I teach classes on social media, I ask “Who’s on LinkedIn?” and almost all the hands go up. But then I ask, “Who knows what they are doing on LinkedIn?” and most of the hands fall.

When mobile messaging apps such as WhatsApp first emerged in 2009, they looked like a threat to mobile carriers. Everyone from Vodafone to Dutch operator KPN was mentioning them in sales calls. Mobile operators are estimated to have lost $23bn in SMS revenue in 2012 due to messaging apps, which host free instant messages through a phone’s data connection, which these days is often unlimited. Now these apps are becoming a threat to established social networks too.

This app might have a complicated name but it has a simple concept. Instametrogram is a free application to view photos on Instagram. You can like and comment on photos, or share them with others. With support for live tiles and desktop notifications, you can keep up to date on new photos as they post. As with most Instagram clients, you can’t post new photos from the app but the developers have made it easy to discover new photos and people, save photos to your desktop, and comment quickly and easily.

Traditional marketers have long used content to disseminate information about a brand and build a brand’s reputation. Business owners started to apply content marketing techniques in the late 19th century due to the technological advances in transportation and communication. They also wanted to build connections with their customers.[8] For example:

As digital marketing continues to grow and develop, brands take great advantage of using technology and the Internet as a successful way to communicate with its clients and allows them to increase the reach of who they can interact with and how they go about doing so,.[2] There are however disadvantages that are not commonly looked into due to how much a business relies on it. It is important for marketers to take into consideration both advantages and disadvantages of digital marketing when considering their marketing strategy and business goals.

The supply chain of digital content marketing mainly consists of commercial stakeholders and end-user stakeholders which represent content providers and distributors and customers separately.[42] In this process, distributors manage the interface between the publisher and the consumer, then distributors could identify the content that consumers need through external channels and implement marketing strategies. For instance, Library and document supply agencies as intermediaries can deliver the digital content of e-books, and e-journal articles to the users according to their search results through the electronic channels. Another example is when consumers pay for the acquisition of some MP3 downloads, search engines can be used to identify different music providers and smart agents can be used by consumers to search for multiple music provider sites. In a word, the digital content marketing process needs to be conducted at the business level and service experience level because when consumers are accessing digital content, their own experience depends on the complex network of relationships in the content marketing channels such as websites and videos. The consumers interact directly with distributors in the big supply chain through various digital products which have an important role in meeting the requirements of the consumers. The design and user experience of these channels directly decides the success of digital content marketing.[32]

It seems like every social media application and network out there comes with its own chat service. Between Facebook, Skype, Google Talk, Windows Live, and AIM (just to name a few), having separate apps for each of these can quickly become overwhelming.

A simple way to start your social media marketing plan is by writing down at least three social media goals. Make sure to ask yourself what the goal will look like when completed, and use that to determine how you will track it.

This app brings a feature to your phone that you may have thought disappeared with your forsaken digital camera. Slow Shutter Cam will capture beautiful light trails, and helps improve low light photos as well—for the low price of a buck.

Not everyone is impressed. “A lot of bluster,” said an attendee after Mr. Vaynerchuk finished a recent speech in Rhode Island. But many executives hear this spiel and are both amused and terrified. Its subtext is this: What you are doing online won’t work. And if you’re not online and on mobile, you’re doomed. You are the next Blockbuster. Or the next Borders. Maybe we should talk.

Because it is digital, a reporting engine can be layered within a campaign allowing the organization see in real-time how that campaign is performing, such as what is being viewed, how often, how long, as well as other actions such as responses rates and purchases made. Please note that each digital marketing technology is different and they cannot all provide the same types of reports. Also, digital marketing is constantly evolving and new technologies are being created all of the time.

Social media is becoming an integral part of life online as social websites and applications proliferate. Most traditional online media include social components, such as comment fields for users. In business, social media is used to market products, promote brands, connect to current customers and foster new business.
