The new feature, called Cameos, will be available starting December 18 for Android and iOS users.
Snapchat is about to launch a new feature called Snapchat Cameos, TechCrunch reported on December 9. This new feature uses a type of deepfake so users can place their faces on other characters – or animals – and create animated videos with comedy tints.
According to TechCrunch, the Snapchat Cameos feature first reached French users, who already shared some of their creations on Twitter.
For its part, Snapchat confirmed to TechCrunch that the Cameos feature is being tested, but that on December 18 it will be officially launched for Android and iOS users around the world. In addition, by the time of its launch, the function will have more than 150 videos to choose from.

To use Snapchat Cameos, users must take a selfie, so that the app can crop the photo, and then they must select one of the existing filters. Once the video is created, users can share it. As with the Bitmojis, the Cameos function can also be used to insert the face of two people.
This new function of Snap is very similar to the one used in the app of Chinese origin Zao, which allows users to perform more realistic deepfakes. However, the reality is that Cameos is closer to resembling the popular electronic cards created by the JibJab website, which allow you to place your face on the body of different characters – such as an elf, a zombie or a mariachi – and create fun music videos.
