Skane - 5 reasons why you should plan a vacation in southern Sweden

The attractions of Skane that you definitely can't miss are put together in a short guide to southern Sweden. Where to eat in Malmo? Which places should you visit in Lund? What to admire on a trip around Scandinavia? Find out 5 reasons why your next vacation is worth spending in Sweden!

Out of Sweden is by nature. You will find here beautiful beaches and dunes, on which you can freely walk and even drive a car or camping. You haven't overheard, it is legal under a few rules in Sweden!

Regardless of whether you go to the seaside, to the countryside inland or to one of the National Parks (there are 3 in Skåne) - there is always something to see. Bird watching places, a mysterious cluster of boulders or just great places for trekking in the bosom of nature.

We recommend, for example, a walking trip from the small fishing village of Vitemölla to Haväng during which you can see beautiful beaches, fairly high dunes carved by a glacier and an abandoned fisherman's hut. Trip to the Bosjökloster castle on the shores of Lake Ringsjön, where you can relax in a beautiful and somewhat wild park. During a trip around the southern ends of Scandinavia, you should also go to Ales Stenar near Ystad , where you will see the Swedish Stonehenge.

Sweden on the plate, which is not just fish

Surely you remember when grandma said that breakfast was the most important meal of the day. In Skåne they take these words to heart. Swedish breakfast is something that every gourmand dreams about. Among the many dishes on the Swedish table, eggs reign in various ways, delicious local cheeses and of course fish. What may surprise is bread - its selection is huge, but the most preferred is dark and has a slightly sweet aftertaste, which in combination with salty butter is an interesting combination.

After breakfast, it's a good idea to go for lunch, which may consist of a crayfish sandwich, a delicious smoked salmon salad or a specialty of Malmo cuisine, i.e. delicious falafels.

When it's 16:00 time for FIKA - Swedish afternoon coffee and something sweet. They can be cinnamon rolls, ice cream or pralines, which Swiss confectioners would not be ashamed of. This ritual is treated very seriously in Skåne, to the extent that if you do not go to FIKA at work - you are a freak. So if you love coffee and sweets - be sure to go to a cafe during a trip to Scandinavia!

It is worth planning the last meal of the day in a place like Matkaravan in Malmo, where many restaurants, cafes and delicatessen specializing in meat and cheese can be found in one place. The food looks and tastes fantastic here, and you can taste here, among others old man's mess, pizza with pickled celery and burnt butter, as well as local cheese specialties.

Then a small beer on an equally small market. Lilla Torg is the real heart of the city, a meeting place that fills up in the evenings. It is worth sitting down and soaking up the atmosphere of this place.

Skania and its amazing architecture

Sweden is a real paradise for those who love architecture. Both beautifully preserved tenement houses, small wooden houses, which we often associate with northern Europe, as well as modern buildings. All this is conducive to walking and sightseeing on a bicycle, because in many places car traffic is limited or turned off at all!

It is worth starting such a trip in Malmo , where a longer walk will allow you to see the best. The beautiful old town and port, where almost every building impresses with an interesting detail, unusual facade or beautiful decorations. It is worth spending the afternoon exploring the ultra-modern Vastra Hammen district , with its symbol - the Turning Torso tower block and a beautiful waterfront, from which you can enjoy the sunset with a view of the Bridge over the Sund.
