Single Review: Robbie Cavanagh - Love Comes Quickly ... and strikes hard and heartily

Love comes quickly ... and once it holds you in its firm embrace, once it lured you with its tender ways, you will gladly surrender to the overwhelming and sweeping surge of emotions that takes control, to the high of being loved and loving someone just the same

Robbie Cavanagh can tell you a thing or two about it (just listen to his love-vowing single 'Godsend'), and does so in a(nother) song of his, however, with a little twist (yet just as endearing as you would imagine): a force of nature, love finds you in the most unexpected places and ways, shows different faces and comes in different phases to those affected, ends yet doesn't cease, tempts and also teaches but doesn't let you in on how to spot its seeds before the time arrives you are supposed to. And while each lover has his own image of and experience with love, it's not the intensity of feelings that is always the same, it's the certainty of love hitting you when you're ready to embrace it. You know, once you know, and that certainty doesn't come with many things in life, no matter what wisdoms and sayings, lessons and insights imply or point out. So when the macunian musician exposes what so called certainties must not necessarily apply to everyone alike, it leads him to the conclusion that falling in love, feeling love though each of us does so at his or her own pace, though it might come with detours and doubts is the one thing that is certain; you just gotta let yourself in for it when the moment has come, and then it sweeps you off your feet fast and fully.

'Love Comes Quickly' is a true-to-life tale, old as time and honest, heartrending and stirring; its sweet still gripping sound, mellow and yet full of atmosphere and emotion (note the song's charmingly quaint country/folk flair - what an aural blessing!), just as much as Cavanagh's tenderly ardent vocal tone can be seen as epitome of how love quite often lurks beneath the surface first, patiently waiting and cautious, soon passionately rising and rousing at once. It is this thrilling wave of emotions precisely that defines the third-listed track on the singer/songwriter's new album 'To Leave/To Be Left' as one of the most resonant and relatable out of 11 in total (and that with many strong contenders for 'favourite song', i.e the gracefully gentle 'Reverence', the painfully beautiful 'Scars', the soulfully delicate 'Roles Reversed' or the warmly wistful 'Let You Down').

Love, in the end, did come quickly here whilst listening as carpe carmina fell deeply in love with both above presented sensitive composition and Robbie Cavanagh's elevenfold excellent opus as a whole. The question left unanswered is: how long will it take you to fall for the carefully crafted and chosen compilation of stunning songs on 'To Leave/To Be Left'? Minutes, hours, days ... or just seconds? Take some your time and find out now!
