Sharrie Williams, great niece of Maybelline founder, Tom Lyle Williams and author of the Maybelline Story, writes about the history of the Maybelline Company and the original family behind it.Sharrie: From what I’ve heard from people who have read my book, be prepared to stay up late, because you won’t be able to put it down. Every chapter ends with a cliff hanger, leaving you saying,, “Well then, what happened?” It reads very fast… takes you through 100 years of history…and allows you to see the inside world and trials of a gay man in the early half of the 20th Century…working to build a fundamental cosmetic company. The Maybelline Company sets the stage for my characters to act out their lives in the most dramatic way possible. This is a never before told story written by an insider who lived it, survived it and is here to talk about…in the most positive way imaginable. This isn’t a “Family Dearest,” story, it is one of love, compassion and respect for the most amazing people I have ever been blessed to know.Mandy: Any plans to write a follow up book?

Sharrie: I've written another book, my life story, that is being considered for a miniseries. I may decide to publsh it as well. But no matter what, something will follow the Maybelline Story.

|Verified Purchase I enjoyed the Maybelline Book by Sharrie Williams. I have been a long time fan of Great Lash Mascara/Maybelline, so I picked up this book to get some background on the company. I honestly knew nothing about Maybelline, including their history, so this book was a fascinating find. The company started out in 1915, when a kitchen stove fire caught In Tom Lyle Williams’s kitchen. He saw his sister, Mabel, mix petroleum jelly with coal dust and ash from a burnt cork. She was applying it to her lashes and brows.
Mabel’s simple beauty inspired her brother. He named the company Maybelline in her honor and went on to become a billion-dollar business. Tom Lyle Williams has lived a secret life until now. While he was building the business, he kept undercover and to himself. He didn’t want anything to destroy his business that he worked so very hard for.
This is a fascinating book that covers four generations and shows wealth, glamour and a family bonded together by a business. The tale includes ambition, luck, greed and secrecy but also love and forgiveness.
I enjoyed the vintage photos of the Maybelline family along with the vintage advertising. I have a love for photography, it was nice to see the vintage photos in their natural state. I liked seeing the family grow from then to now. Again, don’t miss those vintage ads, they are spectacular!
Sharrie Williams is a great author and I cannot wait for her next book to come out. She has a new literary agent, the famed Italia Gandolfo, so I’m looking forward to her next book announced on her new website. This book is mandatory reading for anyone who loves cosmetics, a good story, and Maybelline! Michele the Trainer www.michelethetrainer.com and please visit my author page on Amazon.com too!
