Girl Dies After 325lb Cousin Sits On Her For Punishment
A 9-year-old girl is dead today after her cousin’s unconventional discipline tactic.
Dericka Lindsay was pronounced dead on Saturday afternoon after being rushed to a local hospital after a cardiac arrest call.
According to NYDN, 64-year-old Veronica Green Posey reportedly smothered the young girl with her weight, sitting on her as punishment for “being out of control.”
According to the child’s parents, who were present at the time of the “discipline,” Posey struck the girl with a metal pipe and a ruler before sitting on her for approximately 10 minutes. Derricka told her cousin that she was unable to breathe, but the woman continued to sit on her for an additional 2 minutes after that.
Upon standing up and lifting her weight from the child, they noticed that she was unresponsive and called 911.
Police also arrested the girl’s parents, 69-year-old Grace Joan Smith and 62-year-old James Edmund Smith, who had apparently called their neice Posey to the home to “help them discipline” their daughter. They were charged with child neglect for failing to report the abuse as it occurred, while Posey herself was charged with homicide and cruelty toward a child.
