Acai smoothie bowls are my jam. They are as delicious as they are beautiful, however, they can also be pretty pricey - around $15 or more for an Insta-worthy bowl. Fortunately, creating your own dreamy acai smoothie bowl at home is much easier on the wallet and requires minimal skills in the kitchen.

First, I'll say that making a smoothie bowl is an art form, and my motto is, "Be as artsy as you like!" If you feel like you need a more berries or if you have a blender that doesn't require as much liquid, do your thing. My go-to acai smoothie bowl recipe is simply a guideline. The real beauty of handcrafting your perfect bowl is that you can throw your own spin on it! So add a glob of honey, drizzle in the agave, or follow this recipe exactly. Any way you make it, you'll end up with a truly delicious treat!

It's so good - and good for you!

This smoothie base consists of a Sambazon Pure Unsweetened Acai Packet (I've tried them all and this brand is THE best!), some frozen mangoes and blueberries, a frozen banana, and some light coconut milk to whirl it all together. I also add a bit of maca root powder for a little flavor enhancement and a boost of calcium and potassium. And don't let the 12 grams of fat scare you - it's the GOOD kind - a medium chain saturated fatty acids (MCFAs) in particular, one called lauric acid. Lauric acid is converted in the body into a highly beneficial compound called monolaurin, an antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial that destroys a wide variety of disease-causing organisms. In other words - it's good for your bod!

Colorful fruits like acai and blueberries contain free-radical-fighting antioxidants, and mango and banana also aid in digestion, while adding some tropical flavor to the recipe.

As for toppings, load up your bowl with nutritious, pretty things you actually enjoy. I usually top my smoothie bowls with whatever fresh fruit I have lying around, as well as a handful of granola and maybe a drizzle of nut butter - but feel free to get creative! Coconut shreds, cacao nibs, hemp hearts, chia seeds, goji berries . . . the delicious possibilities are endless!
