When was the last time you had a meal that left you feeling energized, pure, conscious and closer to nature from within? Well, if all this while you have been relishing the restaurant style heavy food items that are rich, spicy and full of fat and carbohydrates, then it’s time to ditch all of that and turn your attention to Sattvic thali.

Why Sattvic food?

Because Sattvic food gives you the perfect opportunity to respect your body and reenergize your mind as well as spirit with positivity and pureness.

Given our fast paced lives, we are left with little to no time for our body. While, most of us end up exercising and consuming dietary foods, others continue to grow and thrive on fast food items that eventually harm our bodies in multiple ways.

So, what is Sattvic Diet all about?

As per the Charaka Samhita, the renowned Ayurvedic textbook, people who follow the sattvic philosophy and eating habits are bestowed with devotion, good memory and intellect. In fact, they do not get anxious easily and are always very grateful towards others and life.

The Ayurveda further categorizes food as Sattvic, Tamasic and Rajasic. While, Sattvic diet includes food items that boast of sattva guna or quality and is ideal for consumption, Tamasic food are those that cause harm to the body as well as the mind. On the other hand, Rajasic food items are neither negative nor positive. Hence those who consume Sattvic diet feel positive, energized, pure, clean, honest and wise whereas those who choose the Rajasic diet experience agitation and feel emotionally drained. The Tamasic diet is dark and leaves one weak, unripe, ignorant, unclean and spoiled in every sense.

Even the Bhagavad gita lists Sattvic diet as one of the finest diets as it is light, easy to digest and helps in cooling as well as soothing the mind. As per the holy book, the Sattvic diet is full of prana i.e. purity and thus promotes positivity, satisfaction and happiness.

So What Constitutes Sattvic Food?

Sattvic food is organically grown on productive as well as rich soil and harvested during the most appropriate time of the year. It consists of vegetables, whole grains, nuts and fruits that further helps in cleansing the body and the mind and enhances the mental as well as physical health of an individual.

However, one must always have sattvic food in small quantities and also chew it properly. Remember, if you consume sattvic food in excessive quantity then it may turn into tamasic and result in health complications and diseases.
