The smell of roux, seafood, andouille, okra, and other aromas will be filling the air as the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort cooks up one of my favorite Gulf Coast winter food events – the 29th Annual Sandestin Gumbo Festival!
Taking place on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16-17, gumbo fanatics from across the region will join locals and visitors alike over Presidents Day weekend for this family friendly event.
The kick-off begins on Friday, Feb. 16 at Hammerhead’s Bar & Grill with a big Baytowne Seafood Boil at 5 p.m., followed by the Gumbo Festival’s main event on Saturday, Feb. 17 from 12-4 p.m.! Live music from Dikki Du and the Zydeco Krewe will get everyone in the Mardi Gras mood!
Guests participating in the tasting will have the opportunity to vote for “The People’s Choice”, while the celebrity judges (I’m excited to participate once again) will be be judging by blind tasting.Winners are announced by first, second and third place awards in the participant categories! There is always a “Best Display” which brings a lot of fun and flair to the festivities.
This year, the event sponsor Community Broadcasters is also awarding a $1,000 commercial prize package to their favorite gumbo. The awards ceremony will begin at approximately 4 p.m.
