Samsung French Door Refrigerators vs. LG French Door Refrigerators

Two of the top brands in refrigeration are Samsung Appliances and LG Appliances.

It wouldn't be overstated to say they are the two bestselling foreign brand of refrigerators in the U.S.

Both are Korean companies and produce a plethora of products, from major appliances to televisions, cell phones, and other mobile devices.

What I want to look at today are their French door refrigerators. Both have a wide selection, with three or four-door models available.

Three Door French Door Refrigerators

I'll talk briefly about the "standard" three-door variety.

The French door fridge is essentially a bottom freezer (usually a pullout drawer) with a larger space on top.

Two doors allow access to the top refrigerator section, giving easy access to food.

As mentioned above, both brands are known for their high-tech products, so let's look at two of the more futuristic models in each line.

An interesting feature on this unit is the unique InstaView Door-in-Door.

It lights up and becomes transparent, so you can check what's inside without the need to open the door and lose cool air. To activate, you simply knock twice on the door.

The window gives the unit a slick, futuristic feel while being marginally usefulfrom a function standpoint.

Thought having a cool light up window in your fridge door was cool? Try having a tablet built right in!

Not only does this touchscreen let you post notes to other members of your household, upload and display photos, stream music or watch TV while you cook, it also allows you to use interior cameras you can access with your smartphone, to view what you have stocked in there.

Ever get to the store and forget whether or not you butter? Or how many sodas are left. Just boot up the Family Hub app and take a look inside the fridge from the dairy aisle.

Comparing Samsung and LG Fridge Models

Both of the above units are Energy Star rated, have nice storage flexibility (though the LG has much greater capacity), Wi-Fi, and LED lighting.

The price for the two is in the same basic tier, with the Samsung ringing in several hundred dollars less before any incentives or specials.

Something else to keep in mind when dealing with both LG and Samsung, because they are foreign companies, finding service, and then getting a quick ship time for parts can be more difficult.

So while the products are of good quality, there are factors to consider when purchasing, weaknesses inherent in any non-domestic brand.
