Ryan’s First Trip Away from Home

By Evette Garside @evette77

Next weekend my little boy will be venturing out on his first trip away from home without me.
He is going on a PGL activity weekend with school, taking part in various sports such as quad biking and abseiling.
He goes on Friday and returns on Sunday which also happens to be my birthday so no getting drunk for me that day.
He is very excited, maybe a little too excited and already started packing. Like most parents. I am a little worried, wondering how he will cope alone, who will he share a room with, what if he gets scared or hurt etc. I will have no real way of contacting him and so have to put my trust in teachers and staff there.
I am also worried incase I forget to pack anything, or if he does not have the right things, right labels etc. He is now 10 and at an age where kids start to notice what label trainers they have and clothes etc. It’s a damn pain in the ass. It should not matter what their clothes say but it does.
The trip cost me a lot. £120 in total. However it’s much more as I also have to buy him things such as a sleeping bag and waterproofs.
I just hope he enjoys it as no doubt I will spend the weekend worrying,

I guess he is not so little no more.
