Review/Swatches: Laneige Two Tone Matte Lip Bar – All 4 Shades! (Laneige x YCH)

By Beautifulbuns

Yasssss. More lippies to hit our shores – Laneige does an annual collaboration with a fashion brand every year, with previous years covering PushButton (2014), PlayNoMore (2015), Lucky Chouette (2016) and this year’s is with YCH. Now it’s worth noting that the previous years weren’t really fashiony, but more cutesy, and now, it’s gone slightly more edgey and chic, which I’m totes feeling.

Now Laneige’s Two Tone Lip Bar has gone through several generations – the first gen Two Tone Lip Bar, the 4 additional shades, Christmas 2016 MilkyWay Fantasy shades, Two Tone Tint Lip Bar, and now, a matte edition!

I’ve applied it two ways – ombre/gradient, and then full color. For an enlarged version, click here.

Over the years: Laneige Meets Fashion – PushButton (2014), PlayNoMore (2015), Lucky Chouette (2016), YCH (2017)

I say…

The Packaging: The same as the predecessors –  a rectangular tube with a reverse mechanism (it’s not your usual twist bullet mechanism) – you push the lever down to raise the lippie. It can be a bit confusing during your first few uses, so be sure to have the cap off fully being raising the lippie.

The Scent: Nil.

The Texture: It glides on pretty smoothly and doesn’t tug on the lips. Even with chapped lips, it went on easily, and covers the lips with a layer of non-greasy, non-sticky lipstick.

The Verdict: Likes its predecessors, this gives pretty good lip color intensity – the darker richer shades (1, 2) turn up better on my lips with just 1-2 layers, while the lighter shades (3, 4) will require more layers to cover the natural color of your lips. They last pretty long (with normal eating and drinking). Although they go on smoothly and give the impression of a normal non-matte lipstick, it actually has a majority-matte finish (there’s some slight shine; it’s not full-on matte). As time goes by, it’ll settle into a full matte finish, and thankfully, doesn’t feel too dry or tight on the lips (especially dry chapped lips like mine). My favorite shade(s) are the darker two, and whether they’re worn gradient or full- color style, give a richer finish. The lighter two shades make me look slightly sickly when worn in a gradient effect. When it wears off (perhaps after 4 hours or so), it stained the lips (well, the flakes on the lips), and can be slightly unsightly – so make sure to always exfoliate the lips, and keep them well moisturised/hydrated by drinking lots of water prior/during application of a matte lippie. Overall, a pretty fun lipstick to have, especially if you’re one for limited edition products/packaging.
