Gooood morning everybardy! How was your Valentine’s Day weekend? Now I’m not much for celebrating such a commercialised day (seriously, you need to show love every day, and not just on one specific day of the year). But oh wells, I decided to join in the fun by showing myself some (extra) love. I decided to treat myself to a new beauty product (yes yes, I know I do this every other day anyways. Heh). This is one of the more highly-anticipated launches from Etude House this year – their Big Cover range, which has concealers as well as this concealer-BB hybrid.

I say…
The Packaging: It comes in a rather heavy bottle but I can’t quite ascertain if the weight is because of the material (glass perhaps?), or because of the consistency and thickness of the product (think: a bottle of mayonnaise is heavier than a bottle of water because of the density). It measures about 11.5cm tall (cap inclusive). Attached to its cap is this giant upsized version of your usual sponge-tipped applicator (that’s said to “move naturally along the curves of your face”). It’s soft and non-abrasive, but tbh, I only use the applicator to draw out the product, place it on the back of my hand and use my fingers/foundation brush to apply it. There’s also that narrowed small circular hole (which I guess helps stop the product from drying out earlier than it should), but it can get messy / gloopy if you yank the sponge tip applicator out or shove it in.
The Scent: Not particularly scented but there’s a slight powdery whiff.
The Texture: It’s smooth and creamy, but definitely thicker in consistency than your usual foundations/bb creams as this is a concealer-bb hybrid. Like the Dior DiorSkin Star Foundation, it doesn’t quite glide across the skin and has a slight “drag”. It can still blend in easily though – it just doesn’t “travel” that much across the face. For those who are used to lightweight, watery foundations, this can come across slightlyyyy heavier/thicker, but it doesn’t feel too heavy/suffocating on the skin though.
The Finish: It’s mostly matte with a slight tinge of dewiness (about 85:15), with a relatively medium-strong oil control factor. The corners of the nose started showing shine after 4 hours of wear, and the whole face starting shining bright like a diamondddd after 5.5 hours (well, my oil glands are particularly active). A gentle dabbing with a sheet of tissue paper should do the trick in removing the shine. Did I mention that it has really, really strong coverage? It’s not joke – my dark eye circles were covered up with 1-2 coats, and majority of the blemishes were hidden away from public view too.
The Verdict: Although the packaging (ie the attached sponge tip upsized applicator) doesn’t do much for me cos I’d rather have a squeezy tube, this is quite a wow product in my opinion. It has: affordable price, good coverage, good texture, decent oil control and rather long-lasting wear (7 hours and counting). It’s supposed to be a concealer-bb cream hybrid, and it does indeed do away with the need for a concealer, and I’d attribute this to its high coverage factor. (I generally don’t use concealers). What’s more, even though it may come across as thicker than the usual products, the finish is actually pretty natural (not the no-makeup look, but more of the medium-makeup look). Overall, even though it only comes in 3 shades, I’d deem this a great product for me to upgrade from my current favorite Stay Up Foundation (which is smaller in size but retails at almost the same price as this one).
