Review/Swatches: Cosme Decorte AQMW Eye Crayons – 5 Shades

By Beautifulbuns

As much as I love my makeup, eyeshadows are something that unfortunately don’t have much fate with my eyes – it’s essentially a combination of the local humidity and the oil lids that don’t make for a long-term relationship. And yes yes, I know that primers are useful too, but hey, if I’m gonna be reviewing a product, I need to be honest and bring forth the pros and cons of it alone, not it boosted by other products right right right? Anyhoos, I’m a fan of eyeshadow crayons because they do have better staying power (despite the lower level of blendability as compared with powders and creams).

  • PK820: Light powder pink – I thought it would do well for the undereye, but it was too light and not shimmery enough to reflect light. It’ll do well as a brow bone subtle highlight, or as a base color.
  • PU120: Blueberry purple with some slight shimmer.
  • RO620: Burgundy red with some slight shimmer.
  • BR321: Similar to RO620, but this is more reddish brown. Also has some slight shimmer.
  • BR320: My favorite color of the lot – it’s a wearable hazel brown. Sheer with just one coat, but what you see in the swatch above is several coats.

I say…

The Packaging: A classy slim crayon with a click-on cap with the crayon bullet twisting upwards. It doesn’t come with an inbuilt sharpener though.

The Scent: Nil.

The Texture: Although this is touted to be a triple-usage eye product, I much prefer to use it as an eyeshadow based purely on the width of this crayon – it’s too much hassle to keep sharpening it to a point to use as a liner. Note that it’s better to warm up this crayon on the back of your hand or on a sheet of tissue before applying it to your eyelid – immediate application might cause some slight drag and pulling. Once it’s sufficiently warmed up (just a few seconds will do), you’ll find that this applies relatively smoothly with a sheer color that’s buildable into a stronger medium color intensity.

The Verdict: This range of crayons aren’t of the highest color intensity (aka sheer-medium), which means that they are great for use as daytime eyeshadows. They’re also useful in blending in edges of other darker-coloured eyeshadows you might be using (this takes away the need for you to use your fingers or a brush) – simply run this crayon gently over the eyelids.  However, what I like is its staying power – it’s pretty comparable to that of Nudestix’s Magnetic Eye color crayon (which is one of my favorite eye crayons). It went about 5-6 hours before succumbing to the onslaught of sebum secreted by the skin, which is pretty decent considering the fact that pure powder-type eyeshadows would have been gone in half that time. Overall, a pretty decent eyeshadow crayon that works well in terms of staying power as well as medium-level color intensity – it’s good for touch-ups on the go or eyeshadow amateurs 😀
