Review & Recipe: Peppadew Piquanté Peppers (Degustabox)
I've been eager to try these Peppadew Piquanté Peppers Mild ever since I received a jar in the February's Degustabox (reviewed here). These sweet piquanté peppers were first discovered in  Limpopo region of South Africa in 1993 and as such are recognised as the world's newest commercially grown fruit. Each pepper is quite small, slightly bigger than a cherry tomato, and they have a unique "sweet heat" flavor. The Peppadew Piquanté Peppers are grown naturally and bottled in their own natural juices without any additives, preservatives or colourings. They come in Mild and Hot varieties and are gluten free and suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Colourful Quinoa with Peppadew

Ingredients:1 packet ready to eat Quinoa5-6 Peppadew Piquanté Peppers1/2 small butternut squash, cooked1/2 tin of sweetcorn1/4 cucumber, sliced.Squeeze of lemon or a drizzle of dressing (optional).
Method
  • Prepare the Quinoa according to the packet instructions. I used the Quinola Express Quinoa which came with last month's Degustabox! This can be eaten hot or cold and I opted to leave it cold for this colourful dish.
  • In a large bowl combine the Quinoa with all vegetables. I used butternut squash, sweetcorn and cucumber to go with the red Peppadew peppers and create a fun traffic light inspired color scheme.
  • Lightly stir all the ingredients until well combined. Add a squeeze of lemon or dressing if desired.

Quinoa can sometimes be quite bland but I found that stirring through the Peppadew Piquanté Peppers was enough to add a delicious flavor to the whole dish. It's fresh and zingy flavor and tangy heat imparted a lovely taste to the quinoa that we all enjoyed.
I know this jar of Peppadew is going to get lots of use, I love ingredients like this that you can just add to a meal to create an effortlessly tasty dish. It gives me lots of inspiration to create new meals or snacks. I just need to decide whether to try them in an Italian inspired salad, or a cous cous, or maybe even as a pizza topping next!
