Review: Holika Holika x Gudetama Face 2 Change Photo Ready Cushion BB

By Beautifulbuns

I’ve never really needed a reason to make yet another BB cushion purchase (even though I’ve been getting rather good at saying “no” based purely on space constraints. However, I lost all semblance of self control with these Gudetama versions from Holika Holika – I bought 3 pieces because I couldn’t decide on which case design I liked the most. Take all my moneh take ittttt. Take it and goooo.

Review: Holika Holika x Gudetama Face 2 Change Photo Ready Cushion BB
Almost the entire range of the Holika Holika x Gudetama collection – I’ve already reviewed the blushers.

Available in 3 designs, which I will call affectionately as “Headache”, “Spank dat ass” and “Eggs and Knees”. Yes I know they make absolutely no sense but I’m quite literal in my descriptions hurhurhur.

Something very interesting about this cushion – The latch that keeps the compact open/close is DIRECTLY connected to the airlock tray/puff holder, which means the moment you open the case, the airlock tray is opened too. I guess they’re taking the Lazy & Easy concept to the max – you don’t even have to make any extra effort to open the airlock tray.

Note that this cushion in shade 21 has a slightly pinkish tinge version the other two brands (Laneige and Lancome).

I say…

The Packaging: Kyaaaa~~~ it’s just too cute for words. It comes with the usual inbuilt mirror and airlock/puff holder tray that holds a specially-designed Gudetama puff. The size of the puff is the same as the usual puffs of other brands though. I’ve also mentioned above that the latch that opens the compact is also positioned exactly at the opening of the airlock tray, which means (as in the case of the 4 musketeers) – one for all and all for one – when you open the compact, you immediately open the airlock tray.

Refill Compatibility: This is compatible with… nothing (yes I can hear a collective sigh). Because of its special Lazy & Easy concept where the latch opens both the casing and the airlock tray, this case/refill does not match anything else at all.

The Scent: A lovely fragrant scent that lingers around the face around 15-20 mins after application. Me loves.

The Texture / Application: It glides on relatively smoothly enough, and has a finish that’s more dewy than matte (maybe 60:40). The coverage is pretty decent with several coats being able to cover most of the dark eye circles. It has a brightening effect, and another plus point is that it does not oxidise/get patchy. The oil control isn’t very strong though, so it means that halfway through the day, the face will look particularly shiny as the sebum glands start kicking into action and combine their shine powers with the existing dewiness. It lasts a medium amount of time, say 4-6 hours. If you use a sheet of tissue to dab the face, it helps remove some of the shine, and actually “sets” it into the skin better (even after 4-6 hours of wear time).

The Verdict: A rather okay cushion in terms of coverage and wear time, but not so ok for me in terms of the dewiness (yes, me, Mistress of the Shiny Face). Although I don’t hate it, I do find myself making a more conscious effort to tone down the shine (be it in terms of dabbing with a sheet of tissue or blotting with an oil blotting film). It may go down better for those with combi-dry skintypes as it’ll help up the hydration levels, or even for combi-oily skintypes when you’re heading to countries with drier climates.

Psst: I’m selling off the refill in Shade 21 if anyone is interested? Check out my For Sale Page😀
