Review: Etude House Dreaming Swan Eye and Cheek + Swatches

By Beautifulbuns

Some girls make the resolution to lose weight every year; I make the resolution every month to not buy any more new makeup. But when I attended the official opening of Etude House’s Vivocity branch, I absolutely could not say no to these. Why is my resolve so weakkkkkk.

Available in 5 shades but I only bought 3 (well, “only” I suppose hurhurhur) Skipped #01 cos it’s way too sheer and more of a sparkle powder, while #03 was too close to #05

Ok so I know the difference is not very visible on the face (especially since I didn’t pile them on like when I swatched them on the arm), but if you look at it from far, you can see that the colours differ slightly.

  • #02 Pointe Coral: Peachy light coral with faint pearly pink shimmers
  • #04 Releve Purple: Faint lilac pink (now this color surprised me the most, because it came out a beautiful light pastel pink with a hint of blue undertones. Unless you’re piling on a huge cake, this is actually a very wearable colour)
  • #05 En Haut Pink: Rosy pink with shimmers of gold sheen.

I say…

The Packaging: Clearly the main draw of this range – it’s uber gorgeous, fairytale-like and princessy – which beauty junkie can say no to that?! The illustration is done by Kerrie Hess (who’s done works for Chanel), and each shade has a different illustration. Even the blush itself is embossed with the accompanying design. GORGEOUS. The puff is inspired by the ballerina/ballet as well – a tutu-inspired embellishment on the ribbon strap of the puff. Awwwww. That aside, it comes in a beautiful tin can contain with a screw-open lid. The tin itself measures about 6.5cm across and 2cm tall. There is no inbuilt mirror though (or else it would have been perfect!).

The Scent: None (I’m somewhat surprised by this considering Etude products always smell so good. I’m not disappointed though.)

The Application: Well, just a large powder/cheek brush to pick it up and dust it onto the apples of your cheeks. When I swatched the colours instore, I found them mostly to be sheer (with the exception of #05 En Haut Pink), those who tend to be heavy-handed can have ease of heart when applying this – it’s a buildable color that can go 2-3 layers without being too Puppet from Saw. However, for #04 Releve Purple, try not to go too many layers as the purple will start building – I usually dust a couple of layers at max to get that beautiful powder pink with a slight light blue undertone that absolutely brightens up my whole look.

I prefer using a brush instead of the puff because a) it’s too pretty to use, b) my fingers are too fat to squeeze in, and c) it’s more convenient to use the brush rather than trying to squish the puff into the pot (the fit is almost exact).

The Staying Power: Well, it more or less lasts the entire day (unless you’re constantly rubbing your cheeks). It doesn’t quite sink into the potholes of the face (yay!) and doesn’t oxidise either.

The Verdict: Definitely something you should get, especially if you’re a sucker for packaging (like I am, clearly quoted in The Straits Times for everybardy in Singapore to see). The product itself is a good quality blush that’s pretty value for money – a little goes a long way and I’m pretty sure I won’t need another blusher in the next 6-12 months; wanting one is another completely different story. Go get yours nao (exclusively available at the Vivocity branch only) while stocks last – this is a limited edition!
