Remy Ma Discusses The State Of Female Rappers, Who She Would Like To Work With, And More

Remy Ma is back and wasting no time at all. After releasing her version to DJ Khaled “They Dopn’t Love Me No More,” Remy Ma calls into Funkmaster Flex show to discuss females in rap, her relatonship with terror squad, and more. Check out what she had to say below.

On signing to We the Best: “Well, Khaled is like the second person that I called. I been talking to Khaled since I was still incarcerated. He has a lot of great ideas and things that he would like to do.

I didn’t sign with anyone yet. I don’t know where I wanna sign yet.”

On being down with Terror Squad: “Terror Squad hasn’t beenTerror Squad for a long time. I did speak to [Fat] Joe and I’ve mentioned a couple times before my release that we had a really good conversation and we cleared the air on a lot of things.”

On today’s female rappers: “It’s a lot of dope chicks that’s out there from what I see. I’m not gonna say a lot, but more than what I expected. What I think happened with females in this game, they tend to allow other people to pit us against each other. They make it seem like it can only be one female. It can be a thousand guys that’s putting out music and rapping and doing what they do, but when it comes to females in this hip-hop business, they make it seem like it can only be one and if it’s more than one there will be two, but ya’ll better be at each other’s throat every chance that you get. Anytime you say one little thing, they be like, ‘Oh yeah, she has to be talking about this person.’

I just feel like it got really crazy. I wouldn’t tolerate it, me personally. Some people, they’re easily led astray. I’m around all day. I don’t have to go after somebody else for Rem to be heard.”

On support from female rappers:
“When I did my Instagramcountdown, I had so many females that rap and from old school veterans to icons like Missy Elliott and Brat and Rah Digga, and even the new chicks like Lee Mazin, they were all doing this, so it was nothing but love and support. When you get to people like Nicki, who throughout my entire bid numerous times, I’ve seen interviews that she’s done, she’s like, ‘Free Remy’ or ‘Tell Rem, holla at me.’ I can definitely say on my behalf, I haven’t gotten any shade from any of them.”

On who she wants to work with: “I’m so mad because I really had my heart set on Meek. He’s really Remy-ish in his stuff. Meek, Ross… I think that it would be dope if we could really get an ill chick record with everybody who’s doing what they do right now. Me, maybe Iggy Azalea, Nicki… Just do a nice little collabo. Azealia Banks

reached out to me. She wants me to do a record with her.”

On whether she would collaborate with Azealia: “I wouldn’t mind. I’m gonna do what I do regardless. I don’t have a problem. There’s enough room for everybody. Rem’s gonna do what she does though. Of course, if she wants to be on the song, she can be on the song as well. I’m just naming the people that came straight to the top of my head. It’s not like I left anybody out on purpose.”
