The girls

I just wanted to share a couple of pic of our big girls, just because our big girls are wonderful. And no, I’m not just quoting that Mika song. I didn't even mention “ curves in all the right places”  did I? I only wanted to add that sometimes cuddling a cow is just what the doctor prescribed to make a day a wonderful one!

Working on the outside

I know, I know, it has been ages since any of us updated this little piece of the interwebs. A lot has changed over the last couple of months, and I promise we’ll give you a tour of the place soon. For now we have been working outside mostly. A huge amount of garbage has disappeared into trash bags and the recycling. So now it’s time to give it some flair. Such as giving this old barn wall a little colour and shine! We found these mirror boxes at the action store (yup, we were spending again). Oh yes, even though we have neglected them, every rosebush we own is in bloom!

The Bathroom

So much has changed since the last post, and so much work has been done!

The last week my mother and I have been busy redoing the bathroom. After the plasterer came buy to do the bathroom walls (those look great) we found out he had splattered glue/paint all over our bath. So, true to our nature, we broke out the bath, the sink, and most of the tiles. We have been replacing them since…

Still working on the bathroom

Champs des Alouettes: Bathroom Ceiling 1

Time for a bathroom update. Mum and I decided to take a couple of days to attack the bathroom ceiling once again. After the initial stage of getting off all the plaster, paint, and muck, we painted on a layer of water resistant paint. The paint we used was originally meant to impregnate outer walls against humidity, but it worked well for our bathroom too.

After the paint dried we added a layer of our favourite 75 gue. And it stuck!! Looking good right? Now we just have to wait for the 75 gue to dry before we can finish it off.

Our Brews

Now that we have a couple of varieties bubbling away we decided to keep a digital brew log. One where you can also comment on the taste of our brews (much appreciated unless they turn out to be vinegar), To cut the story short, here’s the link to our brew log, and you can also find it permanently on the ‘our brews’ tab on every page of my blog.

The Mead update

Today we finally bottled the Forest Fruit Mead, alcohol was still at 5 %, and the lingering taste of the yeast had completely disappeared. So the taste was great and it had cleared out almost completely. Definitely a recipe we’re trying again.

We also re-racked the  Apple Pie Cyser. The hydrometer dropped into our measuring flask and disappeared completely; no alcohol, no sugar. The taste was pretty dry. So in order to bring the alcohol up and to sweeten it a little more we added two tablespoons of normal sugar. In a couple of days we’ll measure again. But for now this cyser is a complete disaster.
