All of these charts use information from a new Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between April 22nd and 24th of a random national sample of 1,500 adults (including 1,270 registered voters). The margin of error for adults is 3 points, and for registered voters is 2.9 points.
Hillary Clinton got about 3 million votes more than Donald Trump in the 2016 election, but lost the presidency due to the ridiculous Electoral College. It is amazing that a corrupt and immoral individual came with 3 million votes of Clinton and beat her in the Electoral College -- and it brings up the question of whether many voters voted against Hillary Clinton because she was a women? Is it possible for a woman to be elected president in the patriarchal society of the United States?
This poll shows the American public thinks it is possible, and will happen in their lifetime. That's the verdict of about 63% (and the overwhelming majority of every demographic group). Then the poll asked whether respondents hoped it would happen in their lifetime. The result was very similar, with 66% saying they hoped it would happen in their lifetime. That was echoed by significant majorities of nearly every group.
The one group that differed was the group of Republicans. They said they hoped it would not happen by an 18 point margin (41% to 59%). That tells me there are a lot of misogynists in the Republican Party, which is no surprise since they usually oppose all efforts to grant equality to women (pay, rights, etc.).
