Poké (pronounced po-kay) has swept through Dallas this past year and one of my favs is Poké Bop. The concept has just launched an East Dallas outpost in the former Zuzu Mexican Food space at 4140 Abrams Rd. at Mockingbird. For diners unfamiliar with the cuisine, think of it as deconstructed sushi in a bowl. Traditional poke (pronounced "po-kay") is typically cubed, fresh, raw seafood - usually tuna, salmon or crab or other sea fare proteins - mixed with a customer’s choice of numerous healthy ingredients, for example: cucumbers, mango, seaweed, sesame oil with a multitude of sauces served in a bowl over several organic rice options. Poké Bop’s chef, Tommy Hwang, is a certified sushi chef with 28 years of experience and he's created a menu of traditional poké fare that is delicious, clean and fresh, available in bowl and/or rolls. “The M Streets and Lakewood neighborhoods of East Dallas offer the perfect demographic for our concept.” said Chef Tommy Hwang. “There are so many families looking for fresh and healthy dining options. We look forward to paring our fast-casual concept with quality ingredients, resulting in great tasting dishes at sensible prices for our new community.” At this new location, guests of all ages will enjoy the Boba Bar where a variety of iced or blended Boba Teas are available in a variety of flavors and adults will also be able to enjoy a frozen Sake-Tini or glass of Frozen Rosé. Poké Bop accommodates 50+ diners with additional outdoor seating being available too. At both locations, guests can build their own Poke' bowl or pick from one of Poké Bop’s Signature Bowls. If you are into instant gratification then grab a Poké Ritto, which is basically an over-sized sushi roll that hasn't been sliced into pieces so you can pick it up and eat it with your hands, like you would a burrito. Premium Asian beers and various wines and cold sakes are available by the bottle. Delivery is available most Dallas zip codes and you will find Poké Bop featured on most of the on-demand food carriers.
