The Academy Awards puts forward the biggest night for films and one of the most unpredictable of its kind. It celebrates cinema and picks out the gems from the best films across the globe, in various categories. Indian films like 'Lagaan', 'Salaam Bombay!' and 'Mother India' left its mark in the Academy Awards.

Like always, the awards paid its tribute to the stars that continue to live even after they have died, physically. The award show featured the iconic Sridevi and Shashi Kapoor, honouring them in the Academy's Memorium section after their demise. The other artists that were mentioned are Roger Moore, Mary Goldberg, Johan Johansson, John Heard and Sam Shephard. While Sridevi is regarded as the first female superstar of Bollywood, Sashi Kapoor has worked in various Bollywood and Hollywood films and have both had a tremendous impact on Indian Cinema.

The Indian audience were shocked after the sudden demise of Srivedi, but her mention in the Oscars further acknowledges the fact that her reach and influence is not limited to India alone, but worldwide. Sridevi also received a State honour during her funeral ceremony that wrapped her mortal remains with the tricolour.

Indian actor Aamir Khan further stated that Sridevi deserves the Oscar mention and expressed his condolences to the late actor's husband, Bonny Kapoor and children, Khushi and Jhanvi Kapoor.

Some other Bollywood celebrities like Varun Dhawan, Rishi Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Pulkit Sharma, tweeted about Shashi Kapoor and Sridevi's Oscar mention.

The 90th Academy Awards Ceremony that was held in Los Angeles introduced the late celebrities in the "In Memoriam" montage and paid a musical tribute by Eddie Vedder who sang Tom Petty's 'Room at the top'.

Actress Jennifer Garner who introduced the segment said, "There is no joy without sorrow", and then paid her tribute to late star Audrey Hepburn.
