There is a nip in the air announcing the onset of the winter season. This time of the year is much awaited for the flavors it brings.
The sumptuous winter brunches and the bonfire Barbeque nights are something that we all look forward to!
Besides tingling the taste buds this season opens a pandora of Good Food Good Nutrition choices too!

Let me give you the list of seven of  my bestie foods for this season:

Amla


The Indian gooseberry is a miracle food, regarded as a nutritional powerhouse for its innumerable health benefits. It is loaded with Vitamin C  which can help in boosting your immunity, improving the metabolism, regulate blood sugar levels, and lower down the cholesterol. Make sure you start your day with this amazing superfood to reap in all the benefits it offers. Prepare the amla shot by grating 2 fresh amlas, squeeze the juice and dilute it with half a cup of lukewarm water and drink.

Bathua -  


Butter loaded Sarson ka saag and methi aloo takes the limelight and bathua takes a  back seat whereas  Bathua leaves are packed with nutrients like vitamins A, B, and C, along with vital minerals like iron and calcium. It also has a high fiber and water content. It helps in detoxification, has anti-inflammatory, and helps in keeping a healthy digestive system.
All in all, it has amazing benefits for fewer calories. Make delicious bathua saag with tempering of onions with a dash of ghee (no loading of butter required)or the raita with boiled bathua leaves or by kneading chopped bathua leaves in the dough and making green bathua rotis.

Carrot and Radish


Forget cucumbers and shift to carrot and radish salad in winters. Both these root vegetables are high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It’s not just nutritious but tasty as well.
A platter of red and white salad drizzled with lemon juice spices up the lunch meal. Grated radish can be added to any flour with green chillies and carrom seeds and spice up your meals.

Millet Flour


Shun the wheat parantha and rice khichri and try the bajra roti with radish or methi leaves, for health benefits like reducing blood pressure, controlling diabetes, promoting weight-loss and is also great for heart health. It is a gluten-free and nutrient-packed option to ditch away from the staples like wheat and rice.

Sweet Potato - 


Sweet Potato is the perfect answer to carb craving. It is a rich source of fiber, vitamins B and C, and minerals including iron and calcium. It is a low glycemic food, hence, doesn’t cause a spike in the blood sugar levels, and a good option for weight watchers as it helps in promoting weight loss.Roasted sweet potato chat on a winter evening with soup is a delight.
Guava
Full of fiber and vitamin C, guava is just a wonder fruit for mid-morning snacking. Great in aiding digestion, promoting weight-loss and lowering down blood sugar levels, guava is a fruit you can depend on in winters.
Pistachio -
Rich in healthy fats, fiber and micronutrients like Thiamine, B6 and Magnesium, Pistachios are a delicious option for evening time snacking so you won’t crave for those unhealthy bhujias and namkeens that are laden with bad fats.
