Previously on Denki-Gai no Honya-san, Sensei asks everyone to help her finish a draft for a very important competition she’s hoping to win, and to become a genuine manga artist…only for Hio-tan to spill ink on the entire manga. Then later, Sensei is given a strip down by the other girls on how unladylike she is.
Summary of Denki-Gai no Honya-San Episode 7 and 8
- The summer otaku festival is over, and the staff choose to go to a nearby hot spring, where Hio-tan discovers that Tsumorin has her eye on Director as well. Later, in the end-of-month cleanup, Hio-tan asks him upfront about it, only for him to embarrass her more by proclaiming he likes all boobs.
- Later, in Episode 8, Sensei tells Umio she’s been assigned an editor for her work, but the others believe she’s leaving the store for good, only for her to say she just needs fewer shifts. Then, Sensei ‘accidentally’ asks Umio out on a date, and thus asks for Hio-tan, Fu Girl and Kameko’s help in acting more like a girl, with disastrous consequences.
My take
- I think, as the episodes keep on coming, I’m getting more and more tired of the same old ‘jokes': Umio and Sensei are constantly embarrassed every time they talk to each other, Hio-tan is embarrassed all the time, Director has the “don’t care” look written over him, Sommelier constantly says nothing (which makes him all the worse of a character to endure), Fu Girl obsesses over her precious little zombies, and Kameko obsesses over her precious little photos, and there’s at least one character who proclaims how much they love their particular manga, as well as at least one character as an angelic savour of the gloomy and depressed bunch.
- Although I will tell you one thing now: Kameko has finally started to crop up more as a character now. Before she was just in the background doing nothing but take embarrassing pictures of every single thing she could find. Now, Director’s desperate for her to be in front of the camera, she goes nuts and turns into her “I’m so cute, I can’t be in front of the camera” mode. A shame I think; with her ‘~nyan’ mouth and messy hair and mismatched hat, she looks more like a boy than anything else.
- The million dollar question here has now become: “I’m not expecting anything new, now am I?”
- No really. I was that close to dropping this, I’ll admit that now. But I don’t drop anymore. Last season’s Glasslip taught me that…despite the terribleness of a show, it’ll pay off in the long run if you see it through to the very end, even if you end up down a unbearable road of pain and suffering and facepalms.
- Don’t have long now. Denki-Gai no Honya-San has certainly not become a favorite show this year. It’s more of a show that makes you question what the viewing otaku want in an nonchalant show. The same old boob jokes……what else?
