British Minister of Finance Nadhim Zahawi told Boris Johnson to resign on Thursday, less than 48 hours after the Prime Minister promoted him to the job, said the crisis that swallowed the government would only be worse.
This is not sustainable and will only be worse, for you, for the conservative party and most importantly from all countries,” Zahawi said on Twitter after more than 50 ministers and assistants resigned from the government.
Zahawi did not say he had resigned, but said he went to the Prime Minister’s office at Downing Street with cabinet colleagues on Wednesday night to tell Johnson to “go with dignity”.
I was heartbroken that he had not listened and that he now damaged the extraordinary achievement of this government,” Zahawi said in a letter.
This country deserves a government that is not only stable, but actions that act with integrity. Your Prime Minister knows in your heart what is true to do, and leave now.”
