New Music from Dixie Chicks, Marshmello & Halsey, HAIM, KNIFEY, and ALITA

It's Friday and we're back with another edition of the New Music Spotlight to share with you all. We've got heavy-hitting superstars, up-and-comers, and five songs that we really want to share.

Check out the country legends, a red hot collaboration, and sister act we can never get enough of, and more - now!

Ready? Let's go!

Artist: Dixie Chicks
Hometown: Dallas, TX
Genre: Country
Related Artists: Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Sara Evans
Song: Julianna Calm Down
Notes: The release of the Gaslighter album has been delayed because of COVID-19, but Dixie Chicks still gave us May 1st new music with Julianna Calm Down. The advice filled, power and strength inspiring, give no f*#ks track is a well planned follow-up to Gaslighter, and I really can't wait for the complete album at this point. Also, there are most definitely going to complain that the song isn't country. Too bad I guess.

Artist: Marshmello & Halsey
Hometowns: Philadelphia, PA / Edison, NJ
Genre: Dance / Pop
Related Artists: Loud Luxury, Mike Perry, Camila Cabello, Zara Larsson
Song: Be Kind
Notes: Be Kind is a super star collab with Halsey taking the mic and making magic with Marshmello. Apple Music marks it down as a dance track, there's a lot of pop in there too - and it all works works works. If you're a fan of either artist, give this one a try and don't be scared to turn it up and move around. Now is certainly the time to dance like nobody's watching.

Artist: HAIM
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Genre: Alternative
Related Artists: St. Vincent, CHVRCHES, London Grammar
Song: I Know Alone
Notes: Their new album, Women in Music Pt. III, has been postponed, but we do get I Know Alone to keep us going until it drops on June 26. And with a simplistic (not simple though, I couldn't do those steps) but captivating choreography video to go along with it, we're all in. The combination their vocal talent, the music, and their natural synchronicity is amazing as it always is. HAIM is great. This song is tops. And we can't wait for Women in Music Pt. III.

Artist: KNIFEY
Hometown: Toronto, ON
Genre: Alternative
Related Artists: Little Junior, The Dirty Nil, White Reaper, Hollerado
Song: Ask You
Notes: It's a week old now, but we still can't get enough of Ask You from KNIFEY. The Toronto band worked with Nixon Boyd (Hollerado, Little Junior) to record the track from their upcoming album, Sleepwalker - and it worked! If you want some guitars and drums and lead vocals supported by backing vocals in the band in an indie rock alternative basement party vibe, this song and the video are exactly what you need right now.

Artist: ALITA
Hometown: Seattle, WA
Genre: Pop
Related Artists: Lennon Stella, RALPH
Song: Too Close
Notes: ALITA's new single, Too Close, is a personal one - written and sung from her own perspective and journey. When talking about the song she says, "it's that moment of fear in a new relationship, when you realize you're past the point of return - you're past the moment when this person is just a new face in your life. Now their presence carries weight and meaning, you start wondering when they're going to call or text, you can't stop thinking about them. And then, the commitment issues start to show up..." The song grooves and ALITA's vocals mesh with the vibe and track that go with it. Enjoy!
