House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) slammed President Donald Trump's immigration framework, calling it part of a "campaign to make America white again."
Trump's proposal would offer a path to citizenship for 1.8 million so-called "DREAMers," and call for $25 billion in funding for a border wall and security. It also calls for cracking down on chain migration and the diversity visa lottery program.
"The administration's anti-immigrant framework is an act of staggering cowardice which attempts to hold the DREAMers hostage to a hateful anti-immigrant scheme," Pelosi wrote in a statement on Friday. "The 50 percent cut to legal immigration in the framework and the recent announcements to end Temporary Protected Status for Central Americans and Haitians are both part of the same cruel agenda. They are part of the Trump administration's unmistakable campaign to make America white again."
