NEVER BUY A PENCIL EYELINER EVER AGAIN! ALL YOU NEED IS THIS!
There, a big bold declaration that sets the tone for the rest of this entry! I picked this little pot of jet black creme sometime in August 2014 and since then, I’ve used this practically non-stop (I occasionally alternate with my Laura Mercier ones which I love too – another story for another day!).
The MUFE Aqua Black Waterproof Cream Eyeshadow (S$43) can be used as a cream eyeshadow as well as an eyeliner – the duo-purpose makes this a great item to have in your makeup kit. If you’re like me and use a lot of black-base or deep eyeshadows, an anti-crease black eyeshadow base like this is an absolute essential – I also adore the MUFE Aqua Shadow (the chubby pencils that debuted a while ago). I was looking for a waterproof black eyeliner and the BA at the MUFE Pro Loft at Armenian Street recommended this to me.
The box doesn’t indicate that this is ophthalmologist-tested but I have somewhat sensitive eyes and I’ve worn this both with my glasses and my lenses for very long hourse with no issues at all.
Backstage, during fashion shows or shootings, the Aqua Black is perfect for painting faux body tattoos. The Aqua Black stays stable under any condition (heat generated by spotlights, perspiration from singers and dancers). Water sequences in which stars need to look almost natural, but also flaunt velvety eyes, are now easy to pull off.
~ Make Up For Ever
This is how the Aqua Black is packaged – a sturdy opaque plastic pot with a screw-top lid. The one thing I don’t really like about the packaging is the little stopper – it’s made of thin, flimsy plastic and mine has cracked a little on the side. It still shuts the pot tight but a sturdier stopper would be better given that it is a creme product. Since August 2014 till now, there have been zero changes to the creamy texture despite me using it ever so often. One tip the BA gave me was that if I was going to be taking a while to line my eyes, I should turn the pot upside down to prevent air from drying out the surface.
I use this only for lining my lower lashlines – I usually use a pencil liner for this but at the end of a long day, it always ends up smudging at little at the outer corners in particular. Some pencil eyeliners fade away (in patches sometimes!) while others sometimes migrate a little into the eyes. There are some very good pencil eyeliners which I still keep in my makeup pouch for a touch-up but to be very very honest, I hardly ever need a touch up now that I’m using the MUFE Aqua Black.
With the MUFE Aqua Black, I use my Hakuhodo B005 eyeliner brush (this is a great brush for short-sighted people like me because the handle is so short!). I will tell you this – the brush is important, admittedly, but the focus here is really on the texture of the eyeliner. In the photo above, look at how the Aqua Black sits on the brush bristles – the texture is just right – it doesn’t pool or collect unevenly on the bristles. It is not too wet or too stiff which makes this easy to apply.
This is how the Aqua Black looks when swatched – deep neutral black, with enough pigment to be relatively opaque in one swipe (smaller, thinner line is just 1 swipe). Also note that it is matte and dries down almost instantly so if you’re using it as an eyeshadow, working fast is a must. Correcting a crooked line is also not that easy given it’s pigmentation and budge-proof formula but the texture is forgiving so I’ve not really encountered much problems of any sort when using the Aqua Black.
The above 2 photos were taken on Diwali 2014 and New Year’s Day 2015 respectively – both photos were taken with my handphone and both photos were taken after I got home at night. In both instances, I was using the MUFE Aqua Black, drawn rather thickly and with nary a smudge or smear. This is why I love this so much – it’s so easy to apply and it lasts through the hours without needing a touch-up. Since a lot of the Aqua range products were developed with the concept of serving sport and water-sport athletes/enthusiasts, this would also be the perfect product to use when you want to hit the gym or that Zumba class (me!) and still wear eyeliner.
I say again: NEVER BUY ANOTHER PENCIL EYELINER! Now MUFE needs to make a gold-black sparkle and a royal blue (like my saree color above!) version of this and we’re set for life.
