Movie Review: The DUFF ~ Now on Blu-Ray, DVD and On Demand!
About the movie:
Bianca’s universe turns upside down when she learns that her high school refers to her as a “DUFF” (Designated Ugly Fat Friend). Hoping to erase that label, she enlists the help of a charming jock and her favorite teacher. Together they’ll face the school’s mean girl and remind everyone that we are all someone’s DUFF … and that’s totally fine.
Based on the best-selling book by Kody Keplinger, The DUFF reveals that while social media can amplify even the little things, high school social hierarchy hasn’t changed since the John Hughes era. Directed by Academy Award® winner Ari Sandel (Best Live Action Short Film, West Bank Story, 2006), The DUFF features some of today’s hottest stars, including Mae Whitman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Robbie Amell (TV’s “The Flash”), Bella Thorne (Blended), Bianca Santos (Ouija), Skyler Samuels (upcoming TV’s “Scream Queens”) Romany Malco (Showtime’s “Weeds”), Nick Eversman (Wild) along with Ken Jeong (TV’s “Community”) and Allison Janney (TV’s “Mom”).

My thoughts:
This movie is so much fun! It’s your typical high-school movie where the plain girl finally gets her revenge against the beautiful, popular girl, but it has plenty of humor, great casting, and just enough originality to make it stand out from other high-school themed films. Mae Whitman is perfectly cast as The DUFF, and Robbie Amell plays the hot guy with plenty of personality and compassion so he is much more than a clichéd character. Bella Thorne plays her typical role of snooty, popular girl. Ken Jeong’s role is smaller than the description implies, but that’s okay because this is really the teenagers’ story, as it should be. Certain sexual situations and jokes earn this movie a solid PG-13 rating. My husband and I really enjoyed watching this movie and will definitely watch it again!
