So this movie exists.

Yep.

Poultrygeist 1b

Arbie (Jason Yachanin) is a nostalgic romantic with little luck in romance and a bad case of puppy love. When Arbie’s high-school sweetheart, Wendy (Kate Graham), returns home after her first year of college, the lovelorn teen attempts to win the object of his affections back by taking her to the site of their first romantic encounter. Unfortunately for Arbie, the ancient Tromahawk Tribe Indian burial grounds have been bulldozed to make way for an American Chicken Bunker restaurant, and Wendy has turned into a left-wing lesbian with a penchant for protesting. Subsequently beaten to a pulp by Wendy’s rough-and-tumble girlfriend, Micki (Allyson Sereboff), and in desperate need of a steady job, disgruntled Arbie applies at the Chicken Bunker despite the fact that Wendy and Micki have launched a tireless campaign against the restaurant. But something supernatural is stirring in this poultry paradise; the spirits of the dead are not pleased that their eternal slumber has been interrupted. As the employees of the American Chicken Bunker begin dying a series of increasingly gruesome deaths, restaurant owner General Lee Roy (Robin L. Watkins) does his best to cover up the scandal and keep his customers in the dark. Meanwhile, the restless demons of the Tromahawk tribe vow to take revenge on the fast-food-loving masses by infecting every last piece of genetically modified poultry that is served at the Chicken Bunker. Perhaps if Arbie can prevent their curse from reaching beyond the drive-through window, he can save the world from a fate worse than trans fat and finally win back the girl of his dreams. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I am really only covering this movie because next week at the Alamo Drafthouse KC, Lloyd Kaufman, THE MAN behind Troma will be hosting a double feature of this movie and also Toxic Avenger.  Personally, I can’t fucking wait to meet the guy behind such terribly bad, but fun schlocky movies.  This one though, this takes the whole fucking bucket of chicken as Poultrygeist is just irreverently offensive, but a whole ton of fun.

Listen, the Native American legacy in America is basically relegated to haunting buildings now, which is just sad.  I get that is an often used movie trope of sacred burial ground, but could we at least come up with something different?  Anyways whatever, I mean this movie is just wildly absurd and a shit ton of fun to watch.  There is something so cathartic about watching a Troma movie in that you know you are watching the most base junk food of movies and it’s delectable.  It’s a movie about giant mutant chickens and zombies just wrecking shit and people being offed in absolutely grotesque ways.

Personally this is just a pure cheese movie for me.  I know it’s bad, but you got to love the care that went into making a bad movie and I hope that Kaufman will talk about this movie a lot at the double feature next Monday.  On some level, I am shocked that this exists, but then again I am watching a Troma movie so I know that this should exists because why the hell not.  Don’t go in expecting anything remotely fantastic from the movie, other than watching mutated chickens and a lot of toilet humor.  The acting is just there so we can call it a movie and the plot is purely there for window dressing.  The meat of the film comes from idea that projectile vomit, poop jokes, horrific looking effects that have some charm and general horror movie tropes will be enough to entertain the viewer, which it does wonderfully.  There isn’t a dull moment in this movie and I kind of want some more oddly enough.
