Morrissey Has More To Say About Harvey Weinstein And Kevin Spacey
There’s been many hot takes on the recent uprising of voices speaking out against powerful men in the entertainment industry. And then there’s Morrissey’s take on it all. Last week, Morrissey gave an interview to Germany’s Der Spiegel in which he defended Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey , calling the allegations “ridiculous” and victim blaming. He also shrugged off the allegations against Kevin Spacey by saying, “If you go through history, almost everyone is guilty of sleeping with minors.”
Morrissey recently returned to the well of sexual assault allegations and pumped out some more stagnant puddle thoughts.
The Sunday Times spoke with Morrissey on Sunday about his latest album, Low in High School. But who cares about Morrissey whining melodically into a microphone when we could hear more of his opinions on sexual harassment. Anyone who thought that Morrissey’s comments to Der Spiegel were a lost-in-translation situation now know for certain that that wasn’t the case. Here’s what Morrissey had to say about sexual harassment and assault:
“You must be careful as far as ‘sexual harassment’ is concerned, because often it can be just a pathetic attempt at courtship. I’m sure it’s horrific, but we have to keep everything in proportion. Do you not agree? I have never been sexually harassed, I might add.”
Every time Morrissey opens his mouth about this, an astounding amount of shit falls out. With that being said, there’s a small joy in knowing he’s Harvey and Kevin’s most vocal supporter. Harvey and Kevin are both probably thinking, “Someone has publicly come to our defense? Great! Oh no, wait – please don’t say it’s Morrissey again…”
But I’m still stuck on that part about Morrissey thinking sexual harassment is a pathetic attempt at courtship. I’ve never heard that one before, but that could just be me. There is a chance I might have accidentally skipped over the part in Pride and Prejudice in which Mr. Darcy offers to hook Elizabeth Bennet up with an English Garden of the Year award in exchange for a shoulder massage.
