Moreish Idols release their debut album ‘All in the Game’ on 7 March 2025 via Speedy Wunderground. Produced by the label’s Dan Carey, the record is inspired by iconic US indie rockers including Pavement and Sonic Youth but also has elements of contemporary art rock that offer something quite fresh and unique.
Album opener ‘Ambergrin’ is a slow-burning intro with elements of The National while ‘Railway’ jumps all over the place in the most exciting way: ‘She knows from this time, there ain’t no going back’. ‘All in the Game’ opens with an admission of being ‘Just ashamed of how it was’ and these self-reflections are delivered against a math-infused slice of chamber pop – think Sufjan fronting Slowdive.
‘Sundog’ has some jazz-inspired interludes backing some raw and powerful vocals, while ‘Acid’ is an assertive, noisy and experimental track that demands your attention. There’s a more soulful sound on the bluesy ‘Out of Sight’, while ‘Dream Pixel’ combines elements of grunge and Glass Animals-style self-reflections – ‘How can this be anything without me feeling something?’ – before culminating in a psych freakout finish.
The closing ‘Time’s Wasting’ clocks in at under 2 minutes and feels like an epilogue – complete with futuristic spacey effects. You’ll be wanting to hear a lot more of Moreish Idols.
