Mira Nair | Celebrating 30 Years of ‘Salaam Bombay’

The Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival, Kolkata was inaugurated by Mira Nair on the 11th of January '18 whose Cannes Film Festival-feted 'Salaam Bombay' will complete 30 years of making.

The Indian American filmmaker based in New York City discussed her experience in the industry in the past thirty years in three continents as a documentary maker and feature film director. The director is best known for her movies like - Academy Award nominated 'Salaam Bombay!', the Golden Lion-winning 'Monsoon Wedding', 'Mississippi Masala', 'The Namesake' and 'Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love'. She gave an interesting insight into most of her films, also pitching forward compelling anecdotes. Nair said, "For me it is important that the film is as it should be rather than catering to what people want to see". The festival started on the 11th Jan and will continue until the 14th of the month. The literary festival will feature over 100 writers, from India and abroad like Basharat Peer, Nayantara Sahgal, Mark Tully, Namita Gokhale, Manu Joseph, Lord Meghnad Desai, Shobhaa De and Ashis Nandy and eminent international writers like Norman Ohler from German, Anna Funder and Robert Dessaix from Australia.
