Lunch at Jimbaran Gardens of the InterContinental Bali Resort

By Thelostboylloyd @lloydthelostboy

When I first set foot in Jimbaran a couple of years ago, honestly, I was quite disappointed. Sure, the view was lovely, but the restaurants in the area charged an arm and a leg for a grilled seafood dinner. Recently, I was invited to have lunch at Jimbaran Gardens of the InterContinental Bali Resort, and I was pleased they are reasonable with their prices. Read more…

THE SETTING

Jimbaran Gardens is among the five dining options at the InterContinental Bali Resort. With its charming, breezy ambiance, it’s easy to fall in love with the place. According to the resort:

Located beside the resort’s main pool, Jimbaran Gardens offers a relaxed al fresco seaside setting, with casual all-day dining accompanied by stunning views across the beach and Jimbaran Bay.

Housed in a traditional Balinese-style dining pavilion, cooled by sea breezes, Jimbaran Gardens incorporates indoor and outdoor dining options: the main, semi-open air restaurant section (seats 38), open terrace on a timbered deck (seats 24), and two traditional Bale Bengong, elevated thatched pavilions that offer privacy for families and groups (seats 10).

Dining at Jimbaran Gardens, which is open even to non-staying guests, allowed us to appreciate the resort’s majestic surroundings and expansive, beautifully-landscaped pool area.

THE MENU

Their menu is mostly Indonesian and Asian-influenced, yet there are a number of Western items as well. And it’s apparent, based on its selections, that the restaurant specializes on locally-caught seafood and fish, which the Jimbaran area and the entire island of Bali pride upon.

OUR FAVORITES

Not to be missed are, of course, their seafood dishes. Our favorites were their fresh Jimbaran Seafood and Glass Noodle Salad, which combines squid, octopus, shrimp, and swordfish marinated in gochujang dressing and placed on top of a bed of bedugul vegetables and garden greens; and their JG Seafood Barbecued, a spread of char-grilled prawns, squid, and barramundi served with sambal and rice on the side.

We also enjoyed the tender Ubud Crispy Duck, described on the menu as “deep-fried marinated duck, served with sautéed chilies, pepes tahu, and tomato sambal.”

BOTTOMLINE

With the restaurant’s familiar Indonesian flavors and the freshest seafood, it was easy for us to like what we had at Jimbaran Gardens. And the good food is accompanied well by the InterContinental Bali Resort’s well-kept surroundings and wonderful ambiance. The best part is that the experience doesn’t come at a hefty price—unlike the seafood restaurants Jimbaran is known for.
