London Walks For New Year Fitness 2014

By Lwblog @londonwalks
We’ve been road-testing – or perhaps pavement-testing would be more accurate – this app over the first few days of January2014  on our London Walks…

It’s called Pacer and it’s a pretty fancy pedometer that measures not only your step rate, but also calories burned and blood pressure. It also allows you to set goals and make your own personal fitness plan. It's a free download for the basic version but there are options for in-app purchases that allow access to more detailed and sophisticated stats.
The first results – on the Ghosts of the Old City Walk on New Year’s Day – allowed us to burst almost all of our 10,000 steps-a-day target…

… (the total here includes two short extra walks to and from the tube station at the start and end of the walk, and also steps taken when walking up the escalator at Tottenham Court Road tube). We'll share our step counts on our various London Walks over the next few crucial New Year Resolution weeks.
Are any other London Walkers using a pedometer in the New Year as part of a fitness regime? If so, do get in touch, we’d love to hear your recommendations. Drop us a line at the usual address, leave a comment on this blog or Tweet us @londonwalks.
