Local Girls Softball Team Encouraged to Keep Playing #LikeAGirl

Encouraged to Keep PlayingDid you know that half of girls will quit sports by 17?

Girls who participate in sports report higher levels of self-confidence, but new Always survey data shows that nearly 7 out of 10 girls reported that they don’t feel encouraged by society to play. When the Always #LikeAGirl campaign examined where that feeling stems from – community support, parental encouragement, funding – they knew they needed to do something to keep girls in the game.

That’s why Always #LikeAGirl and Walmart teamed up to help Phoenix’s own Madison Park Middle School’s girls softball team as part of their “50 Teams, 50 States” program. The program provides a girls sports team in each state with needed resources to ensure that they can be successful this school year and beyond. The team received a donation to help support upgrades to the team’s field, new uniforms and equipment.

Always #LikeAGirl and Walmart are recognizing the important role that sports participation plays in helping girls build and maintain confidence at puberty. The team, one of many overseen by Athletic Director Sara Daffe, is comprised of a group of strong, assertive and devoted young women who deserve extra support as they continue to work hard on and off the field.

Madison Park Middle School and Athletic Director Sara Daffe’s efforts to help these girls’ keep playing sports are inspiring. Even big name celebrities like Maisie Williams are taking part in the ever growing campaign.
