One of the most popular categories of smartphone apps is the category of the messaging apps. While once, using the SMS was the only option for messaging, we now have numerous apps like WhatApp, Line etc. that offer free messaging and various other features like stickers and even voice messages and voice calls.
The competition in this segment is really hot. This, of course, makes it necessary for the app developers to keep on thinking of new features or new ways that would pull the users towards their apps, and away from those of the competitors.
I suppose, this must have been one of the considerations for the developers of the popular LINE messaging app to launch a game. Yes, on January 21, 2014, LINE Corporation announced the launch of a new racing game called LINE Go!Go!Go!.
It is a ‘social racing game. ‘ That is, you can play and compete against your friends who also use the LINE messaging app. Unfortunately, I don’t think it can be played while one is offline. When I tried playing it when I was not connected to the net, it opened up a small window with a message in a language which I guess must be Chinese. Clicking on ‘No’ opened it up again. Clicking on ‘Yes’ exited the game. In short, I was not able to play the game when offline.
As you may have already guessed, before you can start playing this game, you need to get yourself a LINE account. I already had a LINE account, so I just logged in the details and started playing. And once my game ended, I had the option to share the scores with my other LINE contacts. But I didn’t because my score wasn’t all that boastworthy.
LINE Go!Go!Go! May sound like a weird and clumsy name to read. But its aptness proves itself once you start playing the game. The goal of the game is to race your car as far as possible on the limited amount of gas that’s in it. The gas depletes as you race ahead, and when you collide against another car or tailgate them. There are rewards and boosters too that increase the speed of the car and make the gas to last longer.
As the car races ahead, it must be guided so as to avoid collisions and to collect the maximum coins lying on the road. With these coins, the player can then purchase goodies like boosters, spare gas etc. And of course, new cars.
The game is fast paced and can really make the player shout Go! Go! Go! Also, with social gaming, it would surely be even more fun. Players can compete against their friends, compare their rankings, also earn Friendship Points that can also be used to buy new cars.
I enjoyed the game, although it was a bit hard for me. I’m never much good at racing games anyway. The initial start-up was rather slow as some extra downloading took place before the game could start. Then I had to log in with my LINE user ID and password, and agree to some permissions that gave the app access to my LINE account data. Then followed the tutorial which I found to be rather long. Also, the text in the tutorial needs better color contrast. I found it rather hard to read. And of course, it would have been better had this game been playable even when offline
The Android app of LINE Go!Go!Go! Is 28 MB for now, and the iPhone app is 48.8 MB. The user ratings are mostly good.
If you like racing games, this is one more game you can give a try especially if you are looking for a racing game in which you can compete against your friends.
