Life’s Greatest Achievements- Travel and Money Dominate the List

Travelling the World, inventing a life-changing product and abseiling down a mountain have emerged on a list of 50 things the average adult would love to do – but will never have the time to complete. The list of achievements which Brits typically fail to tick off their ‘to-do lists’ include flying a plane, going in a hot air balloon and learning to surf- the majority of adults just don’t find the courage.

Seeing the Northern lights, swimming with dolphins, starting a business and sky diving also made the list of unfulfilled ambitions.

The study also revealed that paying off the mortgage at a young age, building a house or emigrating abroad are common goals for adults, but researchers found the sad truth is that most people won’t tick off more than five items from their to-do list.

A spokesman for Helly Hansen, which commissioned the study of 2,000 adults said:

“It’s fantastic to see that so many people still have a passion for taking to the outdoors in order to experience new challenges, but a real shame to see that so many may not achieve life-long ambitions because of a lack of faith in their own ability.

“Setting yourself a yearly goal can be a great motivator, and whether your goal is to run a marathon, climb a mountain or simply improve your general health and well-being, it is worth investing in the appropriate technical clothing to enhance your performance and to keep you looking and feeling confident when it really matters.”

The study shows that travel is always among the biggest dreams for Brits, with sites such as the Great Wall of China, the Inca Trail, the Egyptian Pyramids, Antarctica and Las Vegas regularly appearing among the places people would love to visit.

Improving ones skill set is another common aim, as learning to cook, learning a language or learning an instrument such as piano, drums or guitar all feature highly.

More random inclusions on the top 50 list include making love to a supermodel, visiting a haunted house, and acting as an extra in a Hollywood movie.

Getting a tattoo, keeping  a diary and spending  a month without any technology are among the more achievable ambitions.

But for 35% of people polled, there simply isn’t enough time in the day to achieve anything on their to-do lists.

A fifth of people worry that if they undertake activities such as sky diving, surfing or doing an army assault course they’ll get hurt or injured, while 22% don’t think they are fit enough to do any of these things.

A depressing 12% of Brits admit they simply don’t have much ambition.

When asked about what is most important in life, more than half of Brits aspire to do better financially in the future.

Half of Brits have plans to expand their family, four in 10 are determined to go traveling and a third want to learn new things.

But 45% know they need to be more adventurous in order to achieve some of the things they dream of doing.
