A microwave is now a common equipment in urban Indian kitchens. However, in India, a microwave's use in cooking has still not reached its full potential. Although you can now even make a dosa or a parantha in a microwave, many people just use it to re-heat food.
To make people aware of the advantages of microwave cooking, LG Indian sponsores the cooking show called Mallika-E-Kitchen. Beginning in 2009, this show has gained quick popularity and turned many homemakers into cooking celebrities.
The 8 th edition of this very popular cooking contest is here. Starting from May 10 th, 2019, it is being organized across 65 cities in India and will see about 8000 participants. These participants will pass through various rounds of the contest. And then, 12 finalists will compete at the Grand Finale in New Delhi.
I once attended a finale of Mallika-E-Kitchen as a media person and it was amazing to see the dishes people can make using the microwave. Well, it was also interesting to get the behind-the-scenes look of a Reality Show. The nervousness of the contestants, the waiting of their families, the energy of the anchor and the organizers, it all created an amazing atmosphere.
Anyway, the Mallika-E-Kitchen Cooking Contest strives to educate Indian homemakers about the importance of healthy food and gives them a chance to showcase their culinary skills. It is a three-stage cooking contest that runs over a period of three months. Any Indian woman over the age of 18 years can take part in it. In the first round (local round) the participants will bring pre-cooked microwave dishes along with the written recipes. The winning recipes will win a LG Solo Microwave Oven and will qualify for the Zonal round which will start from July 15th, 2019. Three winners will be selected from each Zonal Level round. They will win a trophy and reach the grand finale. The grand finale will take place on August 10th, 2019. It will see the 12 zonal winners competing against each other to win the title of Mallika-E-Kitchen.
