Lesbrary Links: Sapphic Space Operas, Queer Indie Comics, and Poetry for Trying Times

I follow hundreds of queer book blogs to scout out the best sapphic book news and reviews! Many of them get posted on tumblr and twitter as I discover them, but my favourites get saved for these link compilations. Here are some of the posts I've found interesting in the last few weeks.

  • Tor.com has been looking back at a decade of writing about queer science fiction and fantasy. They interview more than a dozen queer authors, including Carmen Maria Machado, Nicola Griffith, and Yoon Ha Lee, to look at what's changed since their column began: Queering SFF: 12 Authors, Critics, and Activists on What's Changed in the Last Ten Years
  • Continuing on the sci fi theme, Autostraddle recommend 8 Great Space Operas with Queer Women and Non-Binary Characters
  • If you, like me, are drawn toward comics these days, check out Comic Book Resources's recommendations and history of indie queer comics: For Good LGBTQ Comics Rep, Look to Indies
  • And for a more targeted list to these times, click through to them.'s 20 Queer Comics to Sink Into in Quarantine

  • It wouldn't be a Link Round Up without a list of lists. Here's Oprah Magazine's 44 LGBTQ Books That'll Change the Literary Landscape in 2020
  • Publishers Weekly also has a list of all kids' LGBTQ books coming out this year: 2020 LGBTQ Children's Books
  • Over on the Book Riot Youtube channel, I recommended 25+ LGBTQ Audiobooks on Audible. Commute or no, audiobooks are a great way to pass the time doing chores, walking the dogs, or staring blankly at the wall... not that I've been doing any of that lately.
  • In evergreen twitter drama, someone claimed that there are no f/f books. Of course, we all know that's ridiculous, but Mols by Moonlight responded by posting just a simple list refuting it, of 101 f/f books she recommends.

Finally, I wanted to acknowledge Phyllis Lyon's recent death. She was a co-founder of Daughters of Bilitis, the first national lesbian organization in the USA. DOB would go on to publish The Ladder, a lesbian newsletter that ran from 1956-1970 (I have the whole run!) She and her wife were hugely influential in the history of lesbian literature, and in lesbian activism in general. Here is Autostraddle's obituary for her: Phyllis Lyon, Incomparable Lesbian Civil Rights Activist, Has Died at 95
