Les Sources de Caudalie is a family-run, five star-hotel set in the heart of Bordeaux, the most famous French wine region in the world. The hotel, which first opened in 1999, sits among the vineyards of Château Smith Haut Lafitte – a wine which was awarded 100 points by Robert Parker in 2009 – to offer guests a traditional, authentic and eminently luxurious experience of all that makes the wine region so beguiling.

The hotel offers luxurious rooms and suites, two restaurants – La Table de Lavoir and La Grand Vigne – and a unique concept of Caudalie Vinothérapie® spa combining the therapeutic effects of warm mineral springs with vine and grape extracts. Each of the hotel’s eight houses represent the themes, heritage, paintings, antiques, arts and crafts of the Bordeaux region. While the name and décor of each of the rooms and suites reflect locations within Bordeaux, from Claret to Archipels (‘archipelagos’).

Introducing 12 new suites Now, Les Sources de Caudalie presents 12 new suites each accommodating up to four people and taking the hotel’s room count up to 61 rooms and suites in total. These 12 suites form a charming Village des Pêcheurs (Fisherman’s Village) overlooking a small lake. The spacious rooms (55 sqm each) have a 10sqm terrace and are all named after villages on Cap Ferret: Jane de Boy, Le Port de la Vigne, Le Canon, La Pointe, etc., evocative of the beaches and hamlets running along the Arcachon Bay.

The Fisherman’s Village suites are decorated in the ‘country chic’ style that permeates Les Sources de Caudalie. The coral pattern of the wallpaper is enhanced by whitewashed panels, creating a lovely intimate atmosphere. The walls are decorated with a delightful jumble of photos, witch’s mirrors, and butterfly collections that give each suite its own particular feel and a family ambiance.

Unlike Les Sources de Caudalie’s other rooms which are filled with antique furniture, these new suites, combine collectors’ items and reproductions from the 1950s in a resolutely modern spirit.  The large terraces have magnificent views over the surrounding vineyards or lake and feature large armchairs set around the indoor pool which is located a stone’s throw from the ‘Fisherman’s Village’.

Rouge Wine Bar and Gourmet Food Boutique Another new addition to Les Sources de Caudalie is Rouge, a lively bar and wine shop, where guests can order a platter of charcuterie at any time of day, sample various Bordeaux wines, select some Spanish preserves to enjoy on the spot, or just leave with one or two jars and tapas to enjoy later on.

Rouge (red) is the colour of Bordeaux, the deep red of juicy ripe grapes in autumn and the luminous colour of a great wine. Red is everywhere in Bordeaux and has become the new symbol of Les Sources de Caudalie.

Wine is what gives Rouge its soul, and all of it is from the Bordeaux region, including bottles of great growths as well as more affordable wines that can be consumed either on site or purchased to take away. Expert Sommeliers are present to help advise customers according to their taste and budget. Bottles of wine are released from the cellars and displayed proudly along the red-brick walls. Tall chairs and stools are set around a central bar, with hundreds of brilliant wine glasses hanging above it, while armchairs and low tables give the tapas bar a relaxed, convivial atmosphere.

As for the cuisine, Chef Nicolas Masse makes the most of fine food from Southwest France and Spain; finest jamón ibérico dry cured ham, foie gras and gratton bordelais (a kind of pâté), white asparagus and ceps cooked in olive oil, as well as sardines and octopus from Galicia to share with friends and enjoy with a glass or two of wine.

Les Sources de Caudalie is the most perfect place to experience firsthand the sights, smells and flavours of Bordeaux, with cooking classes, wine tasting lessons, spa treatments all available at the hotel. In addition, activities such as cruises on a pinasse (traditional local flat-bottomed boat) on the Bassin d’Arcachon or bicycle tours around Château Smith Haut Lafitte and other wineries can be arranged thus enabling guests to discover the region’s rich cultural heritage.
