Kovalam is a beach town most of the beauty The beach town of Kovalam is located in the city of Thiruvananthapuram of Kerala.
The name Kovalam translates into “a grove of coconut trees” a name thoughtfully given for the place truly is covered with vast coconut groves.

The beauty of the place is so great that it has often been called as the “paradise of the south”

As Kovalam is a beach town most of the beauty that wraps around the town is associated with beaches.

The beaches that adorn the coasts of Kovalam are immaculately beautiful and when one thinks of beaches to visit in Kerala then the name Kovalam is among the first ones to come up.

Other than the pristine beaches of the town there are other tourist attractions in Kovalam such as the Vizhinjam Lighthouse, Anchutengu Fort, Science and technology museum etc.

When in the beach town some of the must see beaches and other Kovalam tourist attractions would be:-

Light house beach

The name lighthouse beach has been gained by this beach due to the Vizhinjam lighthouse that stands on the beach looking out into the blue horizon. The beach has an unusual charm to it especially during the night when the beam of light from the light house sweeps over the beach and into the sea.

The beauty and cleanliness of the beach with the tall lighthouse looking over it gives it a charm that will surely sway your emotions. This beach is also the southernmost beach of the town.

Hawah Beach

This is yet another exemplary work of art of Mother Nature that has been gifted to Kovalam. Also known as Eve’s beach this beach is a quite busy one especially during the mornings

when the fishermen are getting ready to go out into the sea to get their catch for the day. The beach is particularly beautiful during full moon nights and walks on the beach underneath the moonlight are almost a heavenly feeling.

Samudra Beach

This is a beach that is less frequented by tourists thus it makes an ideal spot to spend some quality time with your loved one. The beach is used mostly by the local fishermen who use it as a threshold for their day to day activity of fishing.

Vizhinjam Lighthouse

This light house is situated on the lighthouse beach and is considered to be a landmark of Kovalam. The lighthouse faces the great Arabian Sea and has guided many ships and boats to port in the olden days. The view from atop the lighthouse too is a great one.

Anchutengu Fort

The fort is a reminder of the colonial rule in India by the British and is a place that is worth a visit. The fort is a bit outside from Kovalam i.e. around a distance of 36 kilometers however the fort is worth a visit. The grand architecture of the fort is something to be marveled upon.

The beach town of Kovalam is a destination that you should not miss out on when in the state of Kerala. The pristine beaches, refreshing coconut groves, forts etc all contribute in making this town a beautiful one.

If it is beaches that you seek to sun bathe or cool off in the sea the Kovalam is the place to be. There are many other places of interests too in the vicinity of the town that you can visit.
