Kollu-carrot Thogayal(horse Gram-carrot Semi Dry Chutney)

Kollu (horse gram) is well know for its medicinal benefits.It helps in keeping the weight in check along with other nutritional benefits.For few people the smell and taste of horse gram may be uncomfortable and may not like to include in the diet.This thogayal is an excellent way to start including horse gram as a part of our meal.For those who are not familiar with the word "thogayal" it is a kind of semi dry chutney which goes well with steamed rice,sesame oil n papads.In this preparation the sweetness of carrots and tangy flavor of tamrind perfectly balances the flavor of horse gram,try this very tasty and perfect for idly,dosa too.

Star ingredient: Kollu
Time-15 minutes
Serves:3
Ingredients:
1 large carrot peeled and chopped coarsely.
1/4 green bell pepper chopped
2 table spoons horse gram
2 dried red chillies
1 small piece tamrind
1/2 teaspoon asafoetida
10-12 curry leaves
Salt
Seasame oil
Method:
1.Heat sesame oil in a kadai,add red chillies,curry leaves,asafoetida and saute well.Next add the horse gram and saute well.

2.Add the vegetables and cook for few minutes.Next add tamrind and mix well.allow to cool thoroughly.Grind coarsely.

3.Serve with steamed rice n pappad.
Notes:
1.While grinding add little sesame oil instead of water to adjust consistency.
2.You can shallots instead of asafoetida and carrots and make thogayal.
