Kicking And Screening Feature: The Last Proleterians Of Football

By Simplyfutb01 @simplyjuan11

The Kicking and Screening Festival is off and running and they have some great films entered this year as they They were chefs and plumbers and other common workers who trained for a few hours in the evening.

One of the movies that will be featured is The Last of the Proleterians of Football.

The Last Proletarians of Football is the story of the “Swedish Model” — the social compact devised and put in place by the Swedish government in the late 1970s — and how Sven-Göran Eriksson’s IFK Göteborg adapted it to shake European football to the core.

Beyond the thrilling victories over such soccer giants as Hamburger SV, Valencia, and Barcelona, this tale of IFK’s beloved Swedish amateurs is also one about the changing face of a nation’s culture, the decline of collectivistism and the end of a working-class ideal.

One of the festival’s coordinators, Rachel Markus, was on the Mad About Fútbol Show to talk and promote the event being held in New York this weekend.
